Is Petersman Boise or Dwag?

With Peterlips up for the College Football Hall of Fame, Say Who Pod, had an underrated discussion about Petersmann. Is he more remembered as a Boise State or Washington coach. For us at this point I almost completely forget about Boise, but I see the argument it's Boise because of that Fiesta Bowl and their run under him where they opened every season it seemed taking on a ranked power conference team and beating them. It was still the WAC/Mountain Weist though and I think what he did at UW was much more relevant nationally in the bigger picture.
That pod also briefly mentioned Woolley because of Came Cleveland.

Def Boise but he cemented himself as legit by being the only Bronco HC to find success post-Boise.
-
He got his shot at being all time at Washington. Nobody gives a shit about his limp dick wins at boise.
-
Good point that winning in two very different places and in a tough situation at Washington differentiates him. If he just stays at Boise he's a very poor man's Mark Few at best and would have had to retire around when he went to UW to avoid winning 8-9 games there the rest of his career. Getting UW back to national relevancy was a tall task in the mid-2010s and he gets credit for being a huge part of the 2022-23 run.

If Petersen doesn't leave Boise
- he doesn't have the same level of success at the end, as indicated by 2013 where his flaws on offense really started standing out.
- He'll get all the bullshit votes but it will be obvious that he's no better than what Tedford was at Fresno. They're both Power 4 coaches running upper programs in the mountain West.
- He wouldn't deserve shit because the MW perception has only eroded with NIL/realignment and Boise gets a larger share of TV revenue anyways.
-
He did two more years at Boise than UW.
Boise became a national story under him and all the underdog/small school being locked out narrative got them attention.
Back then BSU had a ton of games on national TV.
But no accomplishments like making the 4 team playoff and winning a real conference. -
Yes we Washington fans don’t give a rats ass about Boise wins but his legend was cemented there, zero argument. His time at UW basically proved he could build a program and compete at the highest level with a step up in competition.
I still don’t fully get many fans that shit on Peterman. He left Boise because he was burnt out and was hoping to rejuvenate his love of coaching. UW initially did what he had hoped but the burnout returned and he saw the landscape of the college sports changing at rapid speed. He resigned like many Americans do everyday. It truly sucks we weren’t totally competitive in the Fiesta and Rose Bowl but he laid the foundation and recruited and evaluated a solid portion of the upperclassmen natty run dawgs. Those guys soldiered through the Fraud Lake era and we were fortunate to hire Alex DeBoer’s dad.UW was in the wilderness for a couple decades and Petersen was the catalyst to reviving our dawgs so stop bitching and appreciate the man. This isn’t directed at you individually Haie but the Coach Pete disrespect by a few is beyond old. He hasn’t returned to coaching so he was absolutely being genuine. He no longer felt capable of giving 100% and chose himself and his family like most everyone here. He also chose not to collect a multimillion paycheck while mailing in the final years of his contract. Sincerely Mrs Peterman;)

Peterman begat Jimmy Lake.
Boise can have him.
-
Any half ass coach can come in and win 8 games at Washington, especially in the old Pac 12
-
You don’t think any of those Kellen Moore teams could’ve won a natty if given a chance?🤔🤔
-
Tell that to Jim Lake.
-
or Sark and Gilby

Like we say, no.gif

Much respect for Petersman, he was a giant killer at Boise and a solid coach at UW, didn’t win many of the big games but got the team back to respectable level nationally. A win over OSU or Bama and he would have been talked about in different light

The Boise State fans might give a shit
-
In the past I visited their fan site after Petersen was at UW. Many of their fans were jilted lovers even after years. Most seemed to fall in two camps of loved him or disliked him because he had the audacity to leave Boise. I enjoyed referring to them as Boys State!
-
Did Darrell Royal go in as a Husky or a Longhorn?
Will Sark go in as a Trojan, Husky, or Longhorn?
Would it be weird to have two former Husky coaches in the HOF as Longhorns?
-
I'm not sure if this was a serious question but the fields were far too strong in the Moore years - plenty of teams 09-11 who they probably can't beat 10/10 times. They maybe have a better shot in 2006 with the Fiesta Bowl team but still probably get rolled 10/10 times by Urban's Florida team and Pete's USC if they have their head on straight.

Who?

Hardy har har

To me, Petersen's legacy will always be shitty timing. He stayed at Boise for way too long. The dude needed to get to UW or UO by 2009.
I think Pete at UW in 2009 has a decent shot (call it 30 to 40%) at a Natty.
-
Is this a joke? Ofc it's Donkey.
-
If you're a quiet quitter you probably go with the team you fondly remember rolling Idaho fucking State with.
Quiet quitting rose bowl losing fucking frankin's bitch of a head coach. UW deserved better considering that he's still in the building from time to time and prefers that to a literal truck stop.
-
You don’t think they’d beat Cam Newton’s Auburn team?
-
In my head I just assume yeah Cam Newton just rolls them but I forgot how close that Auburn team was to losing so many games, and to unremarkable teams. My knee jerk thought was they could never beat Oregon or Stanford that year either. Ohio State was down. Alabama probably was the most talented team but they were young, unremarkable at QB, and lost some games.
You really got me thinking. Especially looking at that Auburn roster that team was really Newton and Nick Fairley and not much else and Boise had Doug Martin, Austin Pettis/Titus Young at WR and five NFL guys on the defense. They only lost in an OT game at Reno against Nevada's best team ever probably with Kap.
This isn't a bad pitch and a testament to how fucking good at scouting and development Peterlips was. Too bad he was racist.
-
They did beat two Chip Kelly Oregon teams in those years.
-
to peterman’s credit he given some great gifs I’ve seen on this site. If only we had hired Pete rather than Sark. His recruiting and talent evaluation was superb like Woolley said.
-
I had never really paid attention to Peterman's evaluation/development at Boise but looking at that 2010 team was really impressive. Also, I think it was Gaines, Pettis, Sample, and maybe another great college player and NFL guy who were going to Boise but flipped to UW when Petterman took the job. Those guys going to Boise would have been incredible scores.

one Mikey b, one chip

Pretty sure Dissly was also a Boise State commit.
