#2 and #33 were retired at UW for mega old timey guys up until not that recently. I think there were actually stories that Nate Robinson wanted 2 but couldn't wear it. The best Husky comparison to retiring Shedder's at CU to me is if we retired Brock's.
I’d say Locker. Rebounded a dormant program to a mid tier bowl game and was drafted 8th overall. In no way shape or form should Locker or Sanders be retired. There should probably be a moratorium on retiring anyone’s number at CU until Deion Figures is immortalized. That dude won big, won every post season award for his position, first team AA and was a first round draft choice. If he’s not in the rafters no one should be. I could give a pass to Hunter, he was truly amazing last year. The dude can smoke weed and talk shit at CU forever.
Locker is actually a very good comp. Locker is a much better athlete but Shedder is a better passer so it kind of balances out. The program kind of crumbled around Brock.
Who knows what might've happened if Brock didn't develop shell shock early on and never get over it. His shining moment was coming in and dropping some dimes in that ASU game, which I think was his first game action.
As it was, though, I have to agree. Sanders got chased and pummeled and kept stepping up and making big throws in the games I saw. He was pretty easy to hate for me since I wanted them to lose.
1996 was the game that RSF Huard came in for an injured Fortney and almost led UW back to victory. Late drive by Jake the Snake won it for Rose Bowl bound ASU. They hold on in this one and they win the conference. This was the game Brock was dropping dimes before the shell shock that Chuck was referencing. 1998 was the miracle throw to win it in Tempe. Bothe teams were mid that year. UW 6-6, ASU 5-6.
I was at the 96 game. Both Brock and Corey Dillon were 2nd stringers. Fucking Lambo and fuck you Pumpy for defending Lambo and then dying before all of us could give more shit over it. Coward
I’m not sure they beat BYU the next week without Fortney running the ball. Brock sitting back getting flushed from the pocket might have been a bad look.
He also takes a lot of sacks because he refuses to throw it away too, which maybe he stops that in the pros, but usually is someone looking to pad their stats. I don't have an issue with his talent as much as his intangibles.
Compare that to qb's like nix or penix who are extremely difficult to sack and dgaf about their completion percentage.

Shedeuer > > > Brock
I'm not sure that's even close.
You sure about that?

Yes. Sanders was a better college QB than Brock and will likely be a better pro. The kid can throw. He's proven it.
Sanders has also been absolutely pummeled during his time in Boulder and still made plays.

this would be the same as retiring Locker before he was even drafted.
No, Damon
While true, that had noting to do with Brock
@chuck
The Miracle in the Desert was pretty cool against #8 ASU (though ASU ended up being something like 6-6)

Oh yes I know all that. That night in 1998 was still a thrill.

I think we’ve established that we call him Shedder from now on
Despite the '96 game being a tough loss, my dad (usually a quiet man) shouted "The future's looking bright with Brock baby!"

Agreed. Once Brock got the yips and started throwing off of his back foot, it was a limiter.
Sanders has been absolutely rocked since jumping into big boy D1. I'm surprised he's even draftable.
I'm neither a fan nor a detractor. I just have a sneaking suspicion he's going to be a decent pro. He makes throws that you can't coach.
But back to the original point of the thread, yes, stupid to retire either of their numbers. Maybe, maybe Hunter. Maybe.
