For some reason, the Seahawks Super Bowl team came up in my mind while walking my dogs. I wondered who from that team is a legit NFL hall of fame candidate.
Possibilities in my mind:
Offense:
Russ?
Marshawn
Defense:
Wagner
Sherman
Thomas
Chancellor?
Of those 6, who has the best case for the HoF?
Who’s missing?
Comments
Sherman
Lynch
Thomas
Commanders legend Bobby Wagner
Wilson
Those 5 were projected to make it by ESPN last summer. However the voting may have evolved since Eli didn't make it and they took the smallest class in 20 years. Russ and Eli aren't that different, though Russ is better in most metrics except counting stats and having an extra Superbowl plus 2 SB MVPs.Wilson is not HOF material. Neither is Eli. Russ flailed without the historic defense.
I think Lynch should get in. Pete Carroll, too.
Below the HOF tier I would add Ring of Honor and plug in Baldwin, Chancellor,
Marshawn and Wagner only ones
I think this is right. And do you count Pete Carroll? I think he'll make it.
Sherman is a MAYBE. Kinda feels like he just didn't have enough longevity, though. Chancellor was special and should be Ring of Honor. Same with Baldwin. But just not really HoF caliber.
I think some people will make a case for Russ, and it will be a legitimate case, but I just don't think he's done enough to get there. He really had 4-5 seasons of incredible play and then the rest of the team fell apart around him. He's done nothing since being traded and at this point isn't much more than a journeyman placeholder.
Sherman has the same stats as Revis, who is considered a HOF lock, and Sherman also won a Super Bowl. Both were on the all-2010's team. He will get in.
Earl Thomas has similar accolades to Sherman, too, as far as Pro Bowls and All-Pros. Thomas was a semi-finalist this year. There are only 17 safeties in the NFL HOF, though, and the two most recent safeties inducted are Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu. Is he that high on the list, all time?
Lynch, stats-wise, probably should not get in. There are a lot of guys higher on the yardage list who aren't in the HOF.
I do think it’s a worthwhile debate to decide if you had to pick 1 for the HOF between Eli and Russ, which one is it?
I honestly don’t know and I’m an equal opportunity hater of both their franchises. Taking Eli’s family name out of it and his media presence, taking Russ’ weirdness and annoying off field out of it, do either get in and is there 1 clearly more deserving?
2-0 beats 1-1 is all I got
Russ was better in the non super bowl seasons than Eli. More playoff wins
I'd go neither because I think fame has been devalued
Neither of them were generational talents.
Had Pete won back to back SB’s he's a lock and he doesn’t deserve the HOF for the worst Super Bowl play call ever. Marshawn definitely gets in the HOF if he is allowed to finish the drive 10 years ago. 🤬
The more I think on Russ vs. Eli, I'm going with neither. If Eli gets in then put Doug Williams in for his playoff run culminating in Super Bowl 22.
I enjoy the softy interviews on iheart podcasts because it gives me a feel for being back home but I’m so done listening to them slobbering Mike Holmgren and him not making the HOF. And I can’t understand why Hugh can’t not get in the weeds and speak like an actual human when discussing football.
Eli deserves the Hall consideration before Russ and both had elite defenses and the Giants DC stymied Brady and their O. Beating Brady and Bill twice means something and get the f out of here with Doug Williams you homer
Williams scored 42 points in the SB and threw 4 TDs.
Eli scored 38 and threw for 3. In two Super Bowls.
The 2nd quarter of the Williams game is the greatest in Super Bowl history
And they had a 200 yard one hit wonder running back
