I know, was focusing on the recruiting class from 4 years ago and not their 2025 team. Dani-Dennis Sutton is the other excellent DE, Zane Durant is the DT. Both were honorable mention all conference.

Who are the big wallets backing Penn State?
Also, I think Penn State has 5,000 people supporting their NIL program and UW has 500 to 600. If UW had 4,500 more people sign up for Montlake Futures, that would generate over $2.8 million annually.
-
I don't think their "big wallets" are more than corporate doners run/managed by their alums. They just have a lot more of those due to general fan/alum passion. There's nothing they do that Washington can't also do.
-
It's more alums by being a larger school with like 50 satellite schools. The contrast in sponsorship at PSU vs UW is always interesting to me.
PSU just sold the naming rights to the field of Beaver Stadium to something called West Shore Home, which is a home re-modeler for like $3m/year. We sold our field rights to the 5th largest airline in the country for $4m /year 10 years ago.
PSU gets sponsorship money from Highmark cause health insurance for the olds is such a big deal there. And there is sponsorship by like PA state employee credit union.
We put Microsoft (or at least used to) in the stadium and have the Boeing Apple Cup. We list a bunch (and this is a bit old now) but those are far more national that what PSU gets.

One thing that seems unique and an advantage with Penn State is they are the only big time sports college in the state really in a massive state population wise. Ohio State has this too. Plus, both are excellent states for producing football talent.
-
One thing they can do is improve their Montlake Futures hats. I in a possibly mild manic episode donated and thought the hat was one of the cool things but it showed up and it's a stiff snapback style hat that I would never wear. No reason it shouldn't be a soft baseball style like old fucks and rich old fucks wear which is the whole point so they're wearing it out and on the golf course etc instead of having to give it to their nephew. I'm sure the snapback style is cheaper but 99.99% of people who are donating won't wear that style.

Wow the Pitt, Temple, and Penn slander! Actually, Eat shit pitt!
Pennsylvania and Ohio are basically the same thing, states with big population centers then tiny towns sprinkled 5 minutes apart throughout the state. The Pennsyl-tucky contingent, which is vast, are huge Penn State folks. The folks in Pittsburgh and Philly are as well, but less rah rah. Their kids are more likely to end up at Pitt, Temple, or one . They tend to think of Penn State fans as yokels. They aren't completely wrong. Same in Ohio. Columbus is obviously big but literally has no suburbs. Farm to table is a thing there. BTW Cincy has a cool little campus. The stadium is tucked into the campus and students walk through on the way to classes. Cincy, IWILTCI, is an interesting place, where there is some cool shit, but very obviously sketchy shit across the street. CSB.
Cathedral of Learning and Heinz Cathedral are pretty dope at ES Pitt.

Who gives a fuck about a bunch of Yinzers

Going to play football at Stanford right now is so unserious unless you're 100% going there just to play school. There's a much better chance they drop football than do anything even remotely relevant. They haven't won more than four games since 2018.
That said, this is a terrible look and makes you wonder why they took his commitment. Jedd's big junior day has now produced two big thuds and a couple of tap in put commitments. -
Bob Gregory has too much recruiting rizz for us.
-
Isn't he governor now?
-
WDWHA. Fisher of boys reeling in fish and throwing them back?
-
What exactly is the terrible look?
The LB decommit is a player that committed under the prior DC and may or may not be a fit for the current DC who plays a more attacking scheme at the LOS with the EDGE appearing to be a notable emphasis for the 2026 class. And, as you mentioned, anybody that is truly committing to play football at Stanford is making that choice to play school … nobody with a high end competitive motor is going to choose to play for a bottom end ACC program versus a Big10 program that played for a National Title in 2023. I don't want to say WDWHA because I don't know the specifics, but there's evidence where you can't rule that out.
Are you also referencing the OL-prospect from Utah that decommitted previously and then committed to USC right after taking a trip to UW Junior Day? No question that one hurt but the writing was on the wall when he decommitted when Carroll left for the NFL. While he should be a good prospect UW took a massive OL class last year and has some other young players on the roster that will have a chance to be multi-year starters on the interior … between the coach he had the best connection with leaving and USC likely having a greater immediate need (and likely bigger bag) it's really not THAT surprising that he committed to USC. I always read his trip up here more as confirming that USC was his choice more than anything else.
Was Junior Day a full blown failure? It looks like we're going to pick up a highly regarded QB to add to the competition whenever it is that Demond declares for the NFL whether after the 2026 or 2027 season. There are a number of players that have set up official visits after this trip and we had enough momentum off of one player's trip to have them back off of their commitment from Oregon.
Perhaps let things play out a little bit …
-
The JR Day apparently solidified Smiegel and having your QB locked up is a needed piece in getting others in the boat.
-
I was being a big hyperbolic I guess. It could be as simple as Walters not loving the EC guy and I stand by that anyone who wants to sign up for Stanford in 2025 with offers from actual football schools probably doesn’t care about football enough
-
Maybe not when Bill Walsh or Cheater Harbaugh was there but definitely now.
-
Absolutely throw Fisch back into the Puget Sound of he can't close in situations like this.
-
I definitely want Colman-Brusa but maybe the ODea DEs just as much. Feels like O’Dea guys have a really good hit rate. Especially compared to Kennedy Catholic and Eastside Catholic outside of JTT
-
-
Apparently out-recruiting Bama for him.
-
Interesting…seems like that means they couldn't close Smigiel though?
-
In an era of cfb where a random Tennessee kid that has only been on X for 7 months says shit like, "My Source is telling me that Josh Heupal is interested in Washington QB Demond Williams" while Demond just did an NIL event thing a couple of weekends ago, it's hard for me to even care which QB we actually take in this class.
-
I would not be ok if they lost out on smiegel
-
Smigel is slow playing the recruitment. Take this kid and call him Jake and move on
-
When the things change all the time in recruiting meme was born things hardly changed at all compared to now
Now its let's see who shows up for the opener in the fall and how long they stay
-
QB recruiting even before the portal and NIL was getting excited about recruits when only about 1 of every 4/5 you sign actually plays so I'm not too hung up on it. I'm not joking that Smigiel's name is such bad QB aura it's hard to get excited. Assuming none of these guys actually play, my assumption is the higher TBS rating is better because it hypes up your class more and wants more guys to get in the boat, plus Smigiel is west coast so maybe he gets more west coast guys excited to join him.
-
Whew, coast cleared. The Tennessee fan that started the Demond rumor has a post in his history where he's prepping for his pre-algebra test 😅
-
Those community college math 100 classes are no joke.
