Mariners baby

Now that the damn golf guys all left, let's see how long it takes for an Ms thread to slide down off the page without a post.
There is an option to post though too. I'll go first.
Fuck the Ms.
For real though. If a whole bunch of unlikely things go well, Ms should win 86-88 games this year and there's about a 1/4 chance that gets them into the playoffs.
Oh man, it feels good to be able to Moog it up in here without those guys reminding us that Seattle makes the playoffs only once every 22 years.

It really is disappointing and franchise defining that this ownership group is only interested in profits ~ no appetite to spend the money to add the talent they need to build off of a good pitching staff before they head out the door.
What a waste to simply be a feeder team to those franchises that GAF.
-
Odds are that one or more of the starters will miss some time this year, unlike last season. Without an improved lineup I'm not sure how they can win the same number of games. .500 team, at best, IMO.
-
There is a rhythm to Ms baseball
Encouraging end to the season only a few players away from making the playoffs
Fall spent talking about who the Ms can get to get over the hump
Owners announce they are broke and the budget will only allow for 8 players on the field at a time
Fans are irate and threaten to LEAVE
April and the ballpark is filled with hope again and fans

*Starting pitchers, for clarification.

Consistency is comforting.

The move they could have made, that was a fucking layup, was brining Turner back…he wanted to come back, was a great influence in the clubhouse and dugout, and was a good RH platoon option. IDK fuckall about Solano, but JT is a “Baseball Player”, a Pro, and a winner…
-
Another example...like someone pointed out recently, Paul Dejong just signed with someone for basically the league minimum. He could be the backup infielder at every position and hits home runs.
I'm thoroughly unimpressed with how the front office used what little room they had to work with. Cry me a fucking river about ownership, then go figure out ways to make the team better within whatever bounds are set. Dipoto and Hollander both said they needed to upgrade at 1b, 2b, and 3b. They got Donovan Solano and Jorge Polanco and moved Dylan Moore. They tried to sign Carlos freakin Santana for more than double what Turner ended up getting. Jesus man. Leo Rivas and Ryan Bliss are going to make the 26 man. Again...all I can do is shake my head.
Yet it won't be at all shocking if they're right there again in September. Another near miss and another off-season of me daydreaming about punching Dipoto right in his smug face.
-
Dipoto has his issues, but IMO this is ALL on ownership…they couldn't scrape together 2.5M more for Turner, when he said he wanted to stay, everyone spoke glowingly about him (including Jerry), he was a living, breathing example of Edgar's approach, and, btw, hit 20 points above league average, albeit as a platoon.
IF Brash (and others) are healthy, the roto stays healthy (questionable), they will be right there again…hopefully, in September, when they need a ground ball through the right side or a deep fly ball (which Turner can do in his sleep), Solano won't try to hit a 6 run homer and roll over into a DP…

He gone

Sounds 100% like he put a number out there and the M's countered at half.
-
We all know theres no way the Ms end up signing more than one of their 4 young starters and Raleigh to a long term deal. Thats five contracts that would eventually have to pay $20+ million annually.
It's going to get painful. I think the best thing to hope for is that they make some great trades with them. I could see a deal or two this year if they aren't a clear playoff favorite at the deadline. They get less valuable as trade bait the more time passes.
-
I gave up on the M's a long time ago. There's no indication they're committed to a World Series.
-
Just saw a blurb that Justin Turner said he wanted to come back, but not if they weren’t going to add any other hitters, and called the rotation “a unicorn rotation” , IHO “the best 5-man rotation ever”…
-
Only because the Orioles had a 4 man rotation of 20 game winners in 69 and 70
And won a World Series
-
This guy is a cuog and has a dumb mustache. Still though...
-
Yes, he referenced that Oriole staff, as well as Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine…Dodgers may give that title a run this year…
-
I think we've talked about it before but that guy was walking around Lumen/CenturyLink/GayProStadium trying to shame huskies at the Apple Cup for his shitty youtube show and I wish I wasn't there with my wife so I could have walked up and said it to his dumbfuck mustache face.
-
Don't forget to check with him on home prices while you make fun of him.
-
Send the M’s over the border to….Oregon. Problems solved, Pea Patch Safeco or whatever it’s called now. It’s got a nice retractable roof, a real plus for tomatoes
-
NOGAF what you think.
-
My apologies, I saw an M’s thread, got triggered, etc
-
PM to @DerekJohnson Shouldn't the image for this board be change? Looks like two golf boards.
I know that this is clearly the most pressing thing for you right now.
-
My Moog (Mariner Doog) scenario is that, besides great pitching, they use chaos ball to squeak wins out until they are ready to add a significant bat at the trade deadline. We'll see some regression with Robles but Julio, Arozarena, Polanco, and Garver should have at least modest improvements in their numbers. I'm not sure what JP Crawford we'll get.
I'm not counting much on Haniger since he is injury prone and a year older. At best, we'll probably see something around .230 / .300 / .420 and 15 HRs.
I wish ownership wasn't self-constraining in terms of payroll. IMHO, the damage it has caused to their / the club's reputation is easily exceeds the $15 million they could have spent to add a pretty good bat.
-
Wait where is the "Justin Turner is a cuog" allegation coming from? Dude is from Long Beach and went to Cal State Fullerton?
-
I think the idiot youtuber is a cuog
-
The couch gm is a Cuog, or at least a Cuog fan which makes him a Cuog.
Plus there's the previously mentioned mustache.
As for Turner...if I didn't already like the guy I would after he made those comments. He could even be a Cuog and it wouldn't matter.
It's kinda funny. My phone has started auto correcting Cuog to capitalized.
-
My bad, ty

everyone knows that all you need in the playoffs is 3 good starters and some chicken wire so i expect to see the mariners trade 2 starters for players at the deadline ~ the first guy will be Pete Alonzo, the first baseman for the Mets (Richie Sexson redux) who will be available after yet another poor first half and we will swing another deal probably with Texas to acquire the young OF Evan Carter with promise that sat out the last 2/3rd of last season.
-
Good point. I didn't notice that, thank you.
