Pre WW2 Shevlin Hixson and Brooks Scanlon were the 2 busiest pine wood sawmills on Earth. Eventually Brooks Scanlon which was based in MN (hence the choo choo connection) absorbed Shevlin. In the 60's Brooks realized the timber was running out and got into the land development bidness. Many of the West Side neighborhoods were developed by the former logging company. They also did Black Butte Ranch - shout out to @HarveyRoad
It’s kinda hit and miss for us. We definitely get some fires around here, and we can get smoke from EWA fires depending on which way the wind is blowing. Two years ago was really bad, but last year wasn’t bad at all.
When I drove down to visit you in July 2023 during the forest fires I remember your smoggy little studio apartment on Petross and Butthuffer Ave. Holy fuckall!

Watched a 4 part series on James Hill the Empire Builder on PBS
His last act was to build a spur from the Columbia down to Bend to open up the logging. Turned a sleepy town into a tourist mecca eventually

When I drove through this summer, I created my own smoke in the bar porking lot.
.
I smoked 3 American Spirts and half of Dad Weed joint last Saturday night.
Had 5 local pods over listening to my extensive collection of vinyl.
