Not sure what governing body regulates the EBT/Food stamp programs but as a grocer I'd love to see a crack down or a rewiring of the program. The food card should only be allowed to buy fruits, vegetables, meat, tofu/tempeh, grains, breads, eggs and dairy. No candy, no snacks, no sodas, no fake meat, no baked or frozen desserts. The sheer amount of garbage that is paid by the government for low income families and immigrants is ridiculous and a major factor into why Americans are so sick. They don't cover "non-food" items or taxable items such as soap, vitamins, pet food, alcohol or plants. I'd be in favor of making anything with a sugar or salt content over a healthy limit be labeled as "non-food", tax it and make it not covered by the state food cards. Pay for that shit with your own money. I really hate taxes and feel like they are closer to theft than a public contract but Americans need a wake up to what they are putting into their bodies. If anyone is against this tax you're probably a fat ass and should check your diet. Buy some more meat, eggs, rice and vegetables, It'd be good for you. Just my 2c

Maybe the push will come from DOGE on this. Not very efficient to let people use government funds to buy crappy food so that they get fat, sick, and inflamed and then need government funds (Medicare / Medicaid / Social Security Disability) to address the consequences.
I could not possibly agree with this any more. I have far more experience with this than I care to, and it’s ridiculous what people can buy. It needs to be limited like it was back in the day.
Energy dense food has gotten so cheap that we have the fattest pours on Earth.
Please define 'energy dense food'.
The way I define it does not lend itself to being cheap, or for the pours.
.
I still see a problem with trying to go back on EBT cards. They are now seen as a right not a privilege
I fear for the numerous grocery stalkers that post here - why we have so many remains a mystery.
I could see things getting ugly because let's face it most things get ugly these days
I lean towards Race’s position on some days.
One of @haie ’s faggy IPAs is more energy dense (190 cals) than, say, Micholob Ultra (95 cal). 15 Pringle’s = 150 cals. 1 Safeway chocolate chip cookie = 110 cal.
Fuck Safeway — they got rid of Albertson's bags o' chocolate chips. Those were the fucking greatest.
$5 for 3000 cal. Great value for energy intake.
