The destination of departing Coug coaches since the 80s is super wild btw a mix of only depressing lateral moves: Iowa State, Mississippi State, Wake Forest and bluest of blue blood: Miami and Alabama.
Shoutout Jackie Sherrill for getting the Pitt job after one awful year in Pullman though.
More UW superiority as Husky coaches who have left for other jobs have only left for the best of the best: Texas, USC, and Alabama.
WSU is in a really weird place right now. They pinned so much of their identity to hating UW and they're not in a conference with them anymore, they need UW to keep playing them in sports way more than the other way around, and like UW really needed DeBoer to stick around in a tricky transition, they probably needed Dick Hurt and Mateer to be heroes and help them stick it out. The Coug could probably be a solid Mountain West program in a few years but right now they still had some Pac-12 talent on their team but it's all going to leave and they're gonna probably take a while to build up with continuity and upper MW talent hopefully while not completely bottoming out.
The Wazzu Pullman party stuff is pretty fun but it's so isolated that the longer you're there it gets more segregated if you're not into joining a frat. It's also hard as fuck to get there and almost every other college town state U experience is more like Corvallis where it's comfortably outside of the state's main population hub but not a five hour drive (if you're lucky) without even a real regional airport. It was always maybe the weirdest and most difficult place in America to have power five sports played.
I initially thought realignment was going to work out OK, or even great, for Cuog and Beavis. I was clearly wrong. I underestimated how much they depended on being propped up by Pac 12 money. Without it they don't have anything that stands out over the Mtn West schools. The location, at least in WSU's case, puts them way behind some of the other schools.
It's looking pretty grim. OSU can maybe recover. I don't know about cuog.
Why would I choose to go to Pullman if San Diego, San Jose, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Colorado Springs, Boise, or even Corvallis or Fresno were options?

Jackie Sherrill called up the James' residence when Don wasn't there and verbally abused Carol, according to the James'.

Ewe knew hear?
Daddy issue coeds, of course.
I wonder if they’ll have fewer of those as their sports programs die. It used to be that if you were a Washington state resident who didn’t get into UW but still wanted the “big school with a football team” college experience then WSU was the default. Western is a better school and Central and Eastern are in places that are slightly less shitty, At least they’re near an interstate.

Yep that's the problem. Without the windfall of cash from the PAC 12 they rate well below some of those places. Even Fresno isn't a ton worse than Pullman since it's at least a short drive to somewhere else.
Kansas State was always the closest comp in terms of type of school and remote location. But instead of one mid-sized American city 2 hours away, KSU has two, with KC being much bigger than Spokane.
Sounds like Wazzu is decreasing football scholarships to 79… they should go hat in hand and ask the Big Sky for membership.
You inspired me to search this out online and what I discovered is that their upper campus is somehow worse than UW's. Sounds like Schultz is basically steering them into the Big Sky ditch. Enrollment there is down 6k in recent years, too.

cuog really needs to go big sky route. play eastern, montana, idaho, etc., get butts in seats. theyve issued so much debt to build up their facilities they're kind of cooked, but jfc, nobody is drivin to pullman to watch unlv play on a saturday night in november, they will if its idaho.
its over, they lost, if they can somehow realize that they'll be better off. they really have to figure out how to service their debt though, no idea how they do that.

Yeah the Mountain West has some much better markets and destinations then Pullman and Corvallis and Eugene, which unfortunately got propped up.
Cuog gonna cuog.
Serious question, why don’t they give up football? Can they afford to keep athletics around?
in time, WSU and Idaho will be on the same level in athletics.
Big Sky dreamers.

HHope Rolovich gets a 40 million dollar settlement 💉 ☠
Goddamned right - enough to buy a place in Hayden and taunt Chinslee daily.

Whoa……why the disrespect for America’s Team?
