maybe. or maybe it is no Penix. or maybe, which I think is the case, it's that some coaches work in some places and, for whatever reason, don't in others.

a friend of mine was a college coach in Texas for years. he told me that southeaster sports culture, as the last Czarina put it, likes to feel the whip. it's not a place for friendly dudes like Pete Carroll and Dude Brah. The guys who get the most out of that talent and culture tend to be authoritarian.

with that in mind, I wonder if Deboer is too nice to be at Alabama. there's no question that the dude that was there before was not nice and it worked out beautifully for him.
