Post-election update on my far Left Mom
Conversation with one of my brothers last night. Needless to say she’s not handling it well. This is what 24/7 MSNBC, the evening CBS news, and nothing more to do at age 78 (and widowed) does to an otherwise decent and caring person.

—-It’s ridiculous that we have to walk on eggshells around Mom over an election that in reality has minimal impact on our daily lives. Mom is completely brainwashed. Propaganda and cultism works and it’s to the point she views Trump supporters as almost sub-human.
I’m not bringing it up to her, but I’m not coddling her on it either, and I certainly am not going to sympathize for her after she’s allowed herself to get this emotionally invested in politicians over her own family.
It quite literally is her religion, and she’s a fundamentalist.

Neither of my parents made it out of their 60's- but I watched my mother in law grow more scared every day after she retired.
When she got back to work part time- the constant fear started to go away. She volunteered in her part time and then felt she had much more control of her life.

Your mom and my FIL should hook up. Dude spends roughly 10 hours per day watching MSNBC and equating everything to the mean orange man.
He lived with us for about 3 months during the Kavanaugh debacle. The guy is a fucking retired lawyer but simply couldn’t grasp due process and hearsay. He was all in on Ford’s accusations. Kept my mouth shut until I couldn’t any longer and went full bore Bobby Knight on him. Praise Allah he moved out about a week later or there may have been a body buried at the Compound. There’s simply no way of de-programming these people as long as they keep drinking the MSNBC koolaid day after day.
Thank god for Elon allowing other viewpoints.

Yes, exactly, it’s her religion. People believe that religion has to involve believing and worshiping a higher power, but that isn’t the only religion. We all worship something. for example, wokeness has become a prominent religion in America, as people believe their identity gives them some higher meaning, purpose, or value; this simply isn’t true.
Many on the left (and right) view politics as their identity because it is what will save them from pain, heartache, despair, etc. There is no situation which a political agenda can bring a utopia, an unending bliss. It isn’t possible. No matter how hard one tries to avoid it, they will have to suffer.
Some people even worship sports, but that will never save anyone either. I have seen grown men go, “If I could just see my team win a championship, I would be happy.” No, no you won’t. You will have a temporary mountain top moment where you will be riding high for a couple days, then reality sets in. You can never win in sports. Look at Michigan, most fans would kill to have their college win a national championship, yet their fans are at each others throats a year later. New England won 6 titles in less than 20 years, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at their fans, who are miserable in 2024. It’s a cycle that never ends; it can never and will never save anyone from whatever they are trying to be saved from. -
Kamala conceding, and in doing so, not even mentioning the fascist and Nazi-like government Trump is supposedly bringing would lead a normal person to understand that failed narrative was simply a desperate attempt to frighten people. Frighten them so much they won’t vote for Literally Hitler.
Dems and the media all played on the emotions on lonely people, but now that it’s failed, they’re all sipping Manhattans at the Ritz-Carlton this weekend while the human damage they created solely to be in power is very real in families all over the country.

I hope JD Vance, and whoever the Dem candidate is, can pull a message like this, simply calling out the bullshit, together for 2028 as a part of his presidential message and truly try and unify people.Let’s 2028 run on policies, not Literally Hitler. The mainstream media doesn’t have much influence anymore. Time to bury it.
If you buy the idea that Trump is Hitler, there is something wrong internally with you. I won’t give the current Dems the same leeway, as they truly are locking up political opponents on bullshit, and sometimes for years now in DC without a trial because of “domestic terrorism.”

Basically, if you’re basing your well-being on uncontrollable events that are the result of human actions, you’re just kind of set up for disappointment and a lot of dopamine and serotonin hits followed by the same chemical lows even in the best of times.
