Rogers throws out of bounds

I'm usually not the type to bag on an individual player, but since these are professional mercenaries now, and I have nothing better to do while recovering from neck surgery, fuck it. This is a post for the Rogers defenders to help illustrate why some of us might be extremely frustrated with him in spite of decent "numbers" on the season. I don't have a copy of the game to to a gifskinz style breakdown, but just the box score lines are pretty damning. Below is a catalog of what Rogers did on impact plays against USC. By "impact," I mean plays that could extend a drive or plays in the red zone. Plays in bold are successful plays (although this is just a box score, so it's possible some of these successes couldn't have been bigger plays that were checked down from).

  • (12:09 - 1st, 3rd and 10) Will Rogers pass complete to Denzel Boston for 9 yds to the WASH 15
  • (8:20 - 1st, 3rd and 4) Will Rogers pass complete to Denzel Boston for 5 yds to the USC 19 for a 1ST down
  • (6:48 - 1st, 3rd and 12) Will Rogers pass incomplete
  • (3:54 - 1st, 3rd and 7) Will Rogers pass complete to Keleki Latu for 15 yds to the USC 47 for a 1ST down
  • (2:44 - 1st, 3rd and 7) Will Rogers pass complete to Giles Jackson for 6 yds to the USC 38
  • (1:34 - 2nd, 3rd and 5) Will Rogers pass complete to Keleki Latu for 8 yds to the USC 41 for a 1ST down
  • (0:40 - 2nd, 3rd and 11) Will Rogers pass complete to Giles Jackson for 2 yds to the USC 27
  • (13:16 - 3rd, 3rd and 6) Will Rogers pass incomplete
  • (6:52 - 3rd, 4th and 7) Will Rogers pass incomplete
  • (3:06 - 3rd, 3rd and 18) Will Rogers pass incomplete
  • (14:19 - 4th, 1st and 10 at USC 14) Will Rogers pass incomplete
  • (13:48 - 4th, 2 pt conversion attempt) Will Rogers pass incomplete
  • (3:46 - 4th, 3rd and 3) Will Rogers pass complete to Giles Jackson for 11 yds to the WASH 22 for a 1ST down
  • (1:42 - 4th, 3rd and 6) Will Rogers pass complete to Giles Jackson for a loss of 1 yard to the WASH 36

Rogers was 4-14 on impact plays. This kind of shallow analysis is already damning, but the actual film was so much worse. The manner in which a lot of these plays failed is just incredibly frustrating. On at least two of these plays, the target was WIDE open for the 1st down (how do you overthrow a 6'7" guy that's only 12 yards downfield?). On two, we yet again see completions a yard short of the sticks. The two point conversion fade is just inexcusable. It's a fucking free untimed down; the only thing you can't do is put the ball out of play. An interception is the same as incomplete, just give your 6'4" receiver a chance.

The hate for Browning but acceptance of Rogers around here is one of the biggest mysteries of the universe to me. When picturing the ultimate big-balls QB plays, NOBODY thinks of a guy taking a shotgun snap and immediately hitting a slant route, which seems to be all Rogers is capable of doing. He's so inaccurate when throwing on the run that even shifting a bit in the pocket is a recipe for a lame duck throw. And even some of the completions in this game were ones where I thought, "Man, if that's actually on target, there's another 10 or more yards in YAC."

Fisch can be fucking retarded with play calling and situational awareness—the last play on the above list is a great example of that, risking a clock stoppage to throw a sideways pass when the defense is sitting on the LOS—but this team has a completely different record with even a 2018 Browning level QB behind center. At least give me somebody who's accurate out to 25 yards and can throw on the run when the patchwork OL breaks down. Or somebody that presents a running threat and keeps the LBs and safeties honest.

The moment is usually much bigger than Rogers.

That was his worst game by a margin. Meanwhile Coleman had no help on carries when he was in handing it off cause the OLB don't even acknowledge Rodgers

It's Chinteresting and disappointing that he was 1 for 7 on the plays you highlighted in the 2nd half.

But what I can't get out of my mind was his scramble against Indiana on 4th down when he easily could have gotten the first down by running / diving ahead but decided to cut back and was stopped just short of the marker. That is QB malpractice.

That fade on the 2 point nearly made me gouge out my eyes.

The pathetic "shot plays" down the sideline need to stop too. Maybe if they go to a tight endz but not to these receivers. They don't separate at all. Rogers couldn't get it within their catch radius even if they did.

With a bad OL, a bad QB, and a group of meh receivers, and given that two RBs are the only special talents on the offense, there's no excuse for them not pounding the hell out of those two running backs.

I was ok with him the first few games as the offense was trying to get established. He hasn't gotten better since then, and seems to actually be regressing. I'm now on the bench Rogers bandwagon.

I think it goes something like this:

I've never seen a QB intentionally throw out of bounds, more than Rogers. Demond needs to go in when UW gets to the red zone.

He's just not clutch and never learned how to be because he played at zero expectations Mud Dawg for 4 years.

Just win a shitty egg bowl once every 3 years mentality.

Leach should have done us a solid and called him a pussy like he did with DJ.

Penn State's Abdul Carter will be a big problem for him and the offense in general. Kamara of Indiana at least provided exposure there, he's a stud too. I wonder if McCree will be ready to play some snaps to take pressure off of Tafai / Faasolo.

At least Miley would tuck it and run once in a while, so >10 wasn't totally out of the question like it is for Rodgers.

ok, so I read it. I might be wrong but it feels like so many people don’t give a fuck, due to the current state of college football, compared to when brownsocks was here. So where they fucking hate the guy as much they don’t give enough fucks to remind everyone every second how much of a no-talent dick wad rogers is.

I for one spent Saturday coaching two soccer games and then went to a sweet action haunted house/escape room. Because fuck this team and fuck this year and fuck this program… until they don’t suck again.

On another note, your last paragraph resembles a guy that I think is already on the roster!

The thing the play caller, Fish I guess, needs to figure out is that a drive that stalls because your RB got stuffed is no worse than one that's stuffed because your QB sucks on 3rd and long.

Run the fucking ball. It takes guts to just pound it, even with two amazing RBs, because sometimes you have to go against the chart. People are bound to question you when it doesn't work. I'd just counter with the results of every third and long play Rogers has failed to make on the season.

  • HFNYHFNY Member Posts: 5,136 Standard Supporter

Do the Huskies ever run it on 3rd and medium or 3rd and long? I can't recall one instance and they need to break tendencies.

Rogers has sucked the past three games so basically he's sucked against any halfway decent team. It's been interesting they've seemed to play Demond less the worse Rogers has played. I trust the coaches they'll play whoever gives them the best chance to win but I've seen enough Rogers. I can't get excited about it.

I understand the frustration with watching Rogers play at times, because I feel it too. But I don't understand the need to insult him to such ridiculous lengths. Many on this board do it and I'm certainly not telling people how to post. I just don't understand the need. If the guy seemed like a self-entitled douche, okay sure. But he seems like a decent dude who is trying his best but just isn't at the level that we UW fans want and expect.

I recall telling some of you after game 1 that Rogers would cost us because he's so rattled

    But PFF I was told
