Jedd Fisch's plan is clear, it just hasn't been executed yet

DeBoer's biggest accomplishment here was getting the NCAA to keep Haener from coming home. His second biggest was keeping all of Jimmy's players out of the portal.
Amazing offensive coach. Wish he never left. Not sure if he can build a program, he's never been anywhere long enough to say. Same question can be asked about Fisch though year 3 at Arizona was a solid data point in his favor. -
No one is saying Fish>DeBoer. The roster was burned to the ground. Fish has experience doing exactly what UW needs ATM. It’ll take longer than a year but he’s already done it once at Arizona, he should be able to do it here. DeBoer for all his greatness does not have a studs up rebuild on his resume. Does Fish have Warning signs of fucktardery? Yes. Did KDB have some long term warning signs? Yes, and some of those have manifested at Alabama. LIPO

DeBoer had a great run at Sioux Falls too. He went 11-2 in his first season there and then went undefeated in 3 out of 4 following seasons (with 1 loss in the other). That's pretty special too.
-
How about the coach that never lost?
-
Lots of coping
UW fucked the pooch. I won't give them a pass
You have a great coach you keep him. Mike Lude would have
You get what you pay for

After the Oregon win in 2023, I was pissed off about that game, thought DeBoer and Grubb got bailed out by Penix, and wouldn't have given him his 10 mil lifetime contract at that point. Dude bet on himself, December/January he is worth more than a 10/y lifetime contract, and it's just a gamble you lose.

This thread right here is why I pay my $9.99/month at this shithole.
It is about as close to a perfect thread as we’ve had. Good points on both sides. Just the right amount of coach hate to offset just the right amount of doog it up. I find myself agreeing with everything said.
I give this thread 4.5 stars. Huzzahs for all.

I don't think you can really compare the relative ease or difficulty of keeping Don James at UW to that of keeping DeBoer at UW.
Different era of the sport.
I've seen UW screw the pooch more times than I can remember in my life and live to fight another day. We'll be back. Either with Fisch or some other dude. Lather, rinse, repeat.
-
He loses the Apple Cup (which came down to a play) and he's like a $7 million guy and not a $13 million one.
That's some big dick gambling right there.
-
Why does the UW administration not give a shit about football?
They don't have to. 81 percent of the fan base will excuse anything they do or don't do
The NFL came after James when the pay gap was real. Lude found that money and told gerberding to fuck off
-
I would have offered 15 million and a cut of the drugs and guns run out of the crew house and a 30 million dollar NIL pool
And he would have signed
Fortune favors the bold
-
I don't know.
But it's the school I'm stuck with. I'm not gonna start rooting for Oregon or something.
I've personally have fired 3 UW football coaches in my mind, so it's not like we don't share high expectations.
-
Completely agree that he would have signed and started looking at statue designs.
-
They bulldozed the old drugs and guns shell house several decade ago.
With shiny new flooring comes respectability.
-
I think Dannon realized with horror that Fisch was a used car salesman with a long contract and that helped incite him to bolt for the classy cornfields of Nebraska
-
DeBoer had half the key players heading to the portal but he kept everything together and then added key pieces.
-
The story is that the entire AD staff hated Dannen and he was also alternating former players with some of the things he was doing.
-
He would've signed, and in three years that contract would've been completely average for a top-tier coach and everyone is talking about how savvy of a move it was by UW to go big.
-
Fisch has a track record of building something. 2020 and 2021 U of A was awful. They lost to NAU at home. We probably should be 5-2 or 6-1. There's blame to go around. DeBored lost to a SEC punching bag and I laughed. I think he was headed there even if we backed up the Brink's truck. Maybe not. You don't start out offering 12 million a yr. though. That's a hard pill to swallow for some.
-
I don't think that's an accurate assessment. If Jen hadn't left for USC (which has not gone the way she must have planned), there is a much greater chance DeBoer would have stayed. But she left, DeBoer kept winning, Saban decided to retire, and then DeBoer slow played signing a lucrative extension while using Sexton as his back channel communication with Alabama.
The Lude - James relationship was very different than Cohen - DeBoer and certainly Dannen - DeBoer. Both were military veterans and Lude hired DJ at Kent State. When Lude went to UW, he hired Don James. They had a multi-decade working relationship with mutual respect.
-
James went to UW first, then lobbied for Lude to come to UW when Joe Kearney stepped down.
-
Good point, thanks for that clarification. Fisch's ultimate goal may be the NFL if Chun has to hire a new coach in 3 or 4 years, hopefully it is someone with whom he already has a relationship. I would love it for the next coach to be here 10 or more years (I am 99% sure Fisch will not stay a decade).

There's going 7-6 with an over achieving inexperienced team, and there's going 7-6 calling RedZone fucktardness/2QBU against against coug, Rutgers, and IOWA
-
15 mil. To the guy that just lost to Vandy?
-
5-2 at Bammer.
-
Hot take Kim
7 million to the guy who lost to Rutgers WSU and Iowa?
-
The losses to Rutgers and Cuog are inexcusable
-
Race is off the bandwagon.
-
That's what I've been saying. I thought you said it was Rogers fault Race?
