Unlucky Loss in a close game

Sometimes you lose a nailbiter. Men and boys that's just football and frankly life. At 2-2 in the B1G we're still in position to make the CFP. Frankly, I'd even likely too I'd wager.

Obvious fact: there are a couple / three reasonably good teams in the BIG this year ~ Washington is not one of them… the lingering question is do they even have any talent to build on? The recruiting isn’t what it needs to be either. Is this program at the intersection of doom and gloom? Seems like it to me. This is me just being rational.
-
If 110 other teams rosters completely disappeared in random plane crashes UW could not make the 12 team playoff in 2024.
-
This place is irrational but the standards are high
It could be worse, like 2021.
Most coaches need a few years to get things trending.
DeBoer is not the norm and neither was that roster churn after a bunch of true believers got their heart ripped out by the cult leader changing religions.
-
That's why you lock DeBoer up
You get what you pay for we we got a pile of shit
-
this was all foreseeable with NIL and transfer portal. It’s why the NC last year was so important to end on a good note before the Oregons of the world destroy the game by buying their championship and kill college football forever.
-
The Vandy game loser ? DeBoer’s close game malarkey finally caught up with him.
-
Bama runs the table and interim coach Nick Saban wins the natty after DeBoer takes the Dolphins job.
-
Locking up Deboer would've been a mistake. The man is not a program builder - he's a hired gun who knows how to win games, and he's savvy enough to know when to get the fuck out of dodge. It's not like he left UW or Fresno in better spots than he found them, and early returns say the same might be true for Bama.
-
People forget Fischy built Arizona to 10 wins from a burning 1 win cactus
They just don't want to wait 3 years after the DeBoer fever dream
-
DeBoer didn't want to be locked up. He slid into an underrated / under appreciated situation (very good 2019 and 2020 recruiting classes), added a few transfer pieces (namely Penix), and knew that 2024 would be a reloading year (now a rebuilding year since he left).
He struck while the iron was hot for a bigger bag, easier recruiting, and a stacked roster at Alabama with an elite / returning starting QB. Simple as that.
-
There's truth to this but I just feel like in a few years the game has changed so much. It feels now like there's just going to be a handful of teams that will spend the most money to but 20 portal guys every year and that's the be all end all now.
-
Washington did pretty well in the portal overall, with the exception of getting some actual studs on the O Line.
But even then, folks were saying the guys we whiffed on to Missouri and SMU? weren't doing too hot either.
Even when it comes to the portal UW was behind the eight ball as it missed the biggest transfer period since DeBoer left after the title game.
I am neutral on the future of Fisch. This season likely isn't going to be the 8-4 I predicted. He will get 3 years baring a disaster in year 2.
He needs to do a better job in the portal this year. At least there will be continuity. He won't have even been here a year until January.
-
Losing to Vandy at Bamma is as bad as Lake losing to fucking Montana. That’s fire the corch on the Tarmac type stuff.
-
I think DeBoer has us in a better place right now especially short term. I think we would have went into Iowa ranked in the Top 10 and 6-0 and gotten steamrolled in the same way and we'd have the 49th ranked recruiting class still.
-
DeBoer is 100 times better than Fisch
You're fooling yourselves and you don't believe it
As the song goes
-
4-8 to 14-0 first loser is building something
And it would still be here if DeBoer was
UW is cheap because no one cares and will always make excuses for them
-
DeBoer isn't here anymore. Lot of crying over spilt milk.
The admin isn't perfect but it gave enough of a shit to make the best hire available when we were the last team looking for a coach.
-
I’d much rather have year 3 DeBoer than year 1 Fisch. But clearly he’s not infallible.
-
Admin wouldn’t need to make a hire if they paid the man his money. That’s the point.
As for coaching ability, no one is infallible. Welcome to SEC futbol hombre. However, I’ve seen Fisch coach 7 games and can confirm he is retarded with my own eyes. -
Deboer was going to Alabama since at least the 1st Oregon win.
UW could have paid him more than Bama and he still would've gone to Bama.
The last time he built something was D3 Sioux Falls. He is on a win now war path to the NFL.
-
Vandy is not SEC football.
Harvard of the Souf.
-
Every game’s a battle in the SEC
-
LSU vs Ole Miss was SEC football.
Hell of a game. -
Kiffin is in a class of his own. I'd be pissed if I were an Ole Miss fan.
Builds programs to the point where dumbass losses hurt again
-
I actually think Fisch did a pretty good job with the portal considering that UW had to scramble to find a new coach. I wish he had found a better RG because the one from Ohio State would've been 3rd string there for a reason.
But he needs to be even better with the portal after this season because the DL and LB will be especially thinned out.
NIL / Portal is a big part of the game now. 15 out of Oregon's 22 starters are transfers and it's clear that Phil Knight is pumping in massive $$$$$$ to buy a Natty before he kicks the can. Guys like Dillon Gabriel and Jabbar Muhammad are mercenaries who are on their 3rd teams, going to whomever will pay top dollar.
