ESPN College Gameday brought to you by Home Depot

Making it’s 12th* appearance in Eugene this weekend to it’s small, dump of a stadium nowhere near a lake.
Amazing. They will definitely mention Shout, the Duck and Animal House. Three cultural American classics.
ESPN doesn't even broadcast our games anymore and they still come.
*The 12 doesn’t count the fact that every other time they’ve come to the NW Oregon has been the away team.

animal House and Shout are the same thing
HTH -
-
they’ll talk about Ol’ Crimson and their undefeated fans.
-
Do people actually even think about GameDay beyond what drunk Pat McAfee did to embarrass Nick Saban?
The ESPN GD planner just pulls out the same itinerary from the last X times:
- Recognize Animal House (nobody cares)
- Mention Shout (they should be embarrassed and not proud of Shout)
- Have Sabrina on (looks like a dude)
- Maybe have the guy from Modern Family on.
- Some other cringe retard shit nobody cares about.
Meanwhile Anthony Newman will be on their radio pregame show trying to find any opportunity he can to talk about Washington.
-
Fox is less stupid and the hosts don't need Depends
Rarely watch either but it's a big deal in a small town with no natty
-
-
From experience, a #25 Washington heading in in 2022 is a big deal.
Again, I've had a guy at my company that has lived in Eugene his entire life that doesn't give a fuck about sports tell me that Washington coming to Eugene is a bigger deal than any other team.

What a bunch of BS I’m reading in this thread. Next thing you know people will be telling me Animal House is overrated.
-
Still holds up remarkably well in my opinion
-
It's not. Way better film than Boys in the Boat.
-
Go dogs
-
Boys in the boats. That a homosexual coming of age story right?
-
I know I'm old but who the fuck is this?
-
The ONE celebrity alum they have that isn't obnoxious af.
-
Don't worry Bob, if you were to watch it you'd be rooting for the rowboat team wearing the swastika's.
More of a red blooded American type of film.
-
PCU and Back to School are both better.
-
-
Only thing worse than dogs is fucking music. Jesus fucking Christ.
Be A Man
-
sounds like you’ve thought about it a lot buddy (although I agree with most of your itinerary).
-
Man I was so excited for that movie because the source material seemed like an obvious hit and it was just….bleh.
Fuckin clooney
-
Never seen it.

Comedies are super generational and don't age well. I remember first watching Animal House and being like huh, this is it? Belushi seems like a guy who's like Babe Ruth where he was of his time but people since have been way better at what he did like Farley.
Boys In The Boat movie was fine by the numbers film. It was a story that setup way better as a book than a movie. Stakes are pretty low for a movie. If they lost it wasn't like we were going to lose the war.
The only thing I remember about the movie being great was a scene in the heart of the movie where UW is calling begging to raise money for athletics or they're gonna fail and I'm surprised it isn't bigger her or on Twitter.
-
Maybe it's because I'm pushing 50, but I feel like Animal House hasn't aged day. But I also feel the same way about Caddy shack and Blazing Saddles. Perhaps when I debut these films for my kids in a few years they won't appreciate the humor.
Agree re: Boys in the Boat. It has some positives, but was ultimately formulaic Hollywood stuff. Book was better by far. We didn't send our JV boat to beat Hitler which is what the movie leads you to think.
-
I’m slightly confused about all the hubbub regarding this crew story.
It was just a boat race. Not the actual war.Never mind the boat was full of the type of guys Hitler was rather fond of.
If anything you all just proved his point.Jesse Owens on the other hand shoved it right in his face… in Berlin.
-
Good god, man. It's like you hate anything pre-1980.
-
If you watch a Jesse Owens bio you'll find the USOC was far more concerned about not having Jews than they were about the few Blacks like our favorite Buckeye Owens
The German crew was the epitome of Aryan strength beat by mutts including a kid from Olympia Washington
-
Good notes. Thank you.
Still just boats though.
-
It's essentially a story of old timey grit and perseverance during the Great Depression, which is an interesting juxtaposition with today's college experience for students and "student athletes".
The "We Beat Hitler" stuff is mostly just malarkey for bragging rights. But it's somewhat unique in college sports history. Up until 1960 which ever college crew won the Natty in an Olympic year represented the USA. Cal, for example, has 3 Olympic Gold Medals in the 8 Man Heavyweight event to Washington's one. But ours was at the most infamous Olympics of all time with Hitler and Goebbels in the stands watching. UW is the only college "team" which can lay claim to having "Beat Hitler, the Nazis, etc". Owens is the greatest sports story of the 1936 games, obviously, but he was a solo athlete as opposed to an Ohio State University team.
Fun fact: UW's 1958 Crew was also the first American Collegiate team to compete in the Soviet Union. We also won that one.

Wood, but don't know who she is.
