Friday afternoon update:
Finished
- Tweaked the Rank label (golden football) so it's more centered on the username.
- Adjusted padding on page so there is less empty space at the top
- Adjusted padding between reaction buttons and post
Could you send me the original image file for the Hardcore Husky logo and banners? The copies that Vanilla has saved are smaller than they should be. If I have the original copies, it won't be hard to make it look sharper.
Regarding the logo (top-left of the page), what size would you want that to be at? Also, is there another image you'd like to use there? When copying from the previous theme, it looked like you were just using another copy of the banner image. Personally, I think the size of the logo is fine, but replacing it with an actual logo image (an "HH" or just the mascot's head) may be the way to go.
Things I'm working On:- Adjusting font size - make usernames larger than text in comments/discussions.
- Removing circular frame on avatars
- Post Count and Post Date Alignment - this looks to be a mobile specific issue related to the size of the rank label (golden football)

I have nothing but respect for Derek so I will try to be constructive in these troubling times.
1. Moving through pages. I only seem to be able to move one page at a time. Before I could see 4-5 pages that I could click on.2. Posts vs Views. I used to use information that to know if it was a troll post. You know, like a Dan Reilly article (don’t care if his name is spelled incorrectly).
Q - Will we need to click on each post so that the yellow numbers will show for new posts? That could suck balls.

This kinda sucks on mobile.
It still drives me nuts that I have to capitalize the first letter of a new poast or paragraph. I also just realized I can’t double space for a period part of the time. No idea why.Also, navigating pages is worse because there’s no links back to the bored I came from or home at the bottom of the page, I have to go back to the top to do that now.

I don't get the "test it in production" strategy at all. Wasn't that the general approach behind the initial Obamacare website?

Our IT guy is aware that it sucks on mobile. That will be addressed.

I move legacy tech stacks over to new ones companies can actually staff for as a living. It's not as far off as it feels right now. There were some very junior responsivity choices made here that are super cheap to correct. If you can or ever want to open up the repo, I'm happy to help.

Nothing really to add that others haven't said. Darker text, better mobile, wish it would render more dynamically on the PC where I have a widescreen. Not sure what the … is next to each post since clicking it returns a menu which doesn't exist. Looking forward to seeing it evolve and improve.
Edit: Well apparently the … is the link to edit, which does work for myself but shows and is unclickable for other posts. So functionality is fine, role controls (assume there are mod actions in there) probably need some improvements.

I know they are working on stuff - THe only thing that I'd like to repeat that several others have already said is this:
It'd be great to have links at the bottom to go back to the board you were on. Sucks to have to scroll all the way to the top.

I will say that, on a positive note, the ability to now have a recent discussion link on mobile is a huge step forward.
Biggest issues I am currently seeing are that there are still a ton of layout issues with how the pages format (particularly on mobile), and the font color is too light.

I've worked with a lot of graphic designers over the years, and for some reason, most of them love to use gray typeface. I always tell them to go black (hardy har har) because readability is more important than them winning some fucking award. And I'm the goddamned client who is paying you, asshole.
I do that.

No idea why we see the ellipses on other's posts.

Yeah the 15 minute rule is fine, been used to that forever, but the ellipses threw me off.

I've always had the ability to manipulate that. 15 minutes seems like a good middle ground

Virtually everyone's feedback is being forwarded to the IT guy, along with my comments.
In the next few days or couple weeks I'll make a decision to either cut bait and return to our previous layout, or we'll forge ahead. I appreciate everyone's feedback. One way or another, we'll have our best foot forward come August 1 and the fall camp.

I realize I'm saying some stuff that has been said already but since our product manager appears to be Karen Ramrod.
Mobile in general but layout, quotes, and typing poasts in general are really bad. Usability is really suffering.
Typing on mobile is especially awful, it's doing it as I type this now. Jumps around where typing is landing seemingly randomly, deletes content that has been typed already, etc. Can't @people 81% of the tim for seemingly no reason. Combine it with the terrible quote function and it makes typing anything meaningful a gamble not worth investing time in.
Fix basic typing, quoting, and @'s on mobile (in that order) and at least you have a usable product again. Layout can come later.

Am I the only one who woke up not able to view the site in the mobile format? I can only see the site in the desktop format from my phone. The link at the bottom of the page that allows you to switch back and forth is no longer there.
