We all know husky stadium can get loud, but can it get louder? According to the jumbo tron decibel meter during the Oregon gayme, I witnessed 125-132. Does it have the potential to break 137?
I've often thought that connecting the upper deck sections together over the west end zone would bump capacity to 100k? and make opposing teams ears bleed, this would never happen, but, but, maybe someday, B10 now

This is why I don’t fear Ai
Nice catch Yella, I thought that was our? Practice facility in Hong Kong?
Lambright used to speak openly about enclosing the west end zone.
Gotta screen for the Ai shit posting these days, boss. They need to get their reads down and take some classes from @AZDuck
UW needs to fill 70K before any talk of 100K even sees the light of day
St. Cloud State, #1. Who knew? Thanks, Taft.
Would have made sense in the 90s. Not since the early-2000s though. I think even the blue bloods are and will have trouble with attendance as time goes on, especially for games that aren't big.
Lets face it, the networks are in a tough spot right now and inevitably, truck racing will continue to be the popular choice when its a head to head battle. Read the comments below for information about how to season the meatballs.
I fucking love those tractor pulls.
Everybody does!
Networks are freaking out now about the rising cost of content while the book value of assets and media stock prices are going thru the floor, Paramount is for sale [large streaming service and CBS will be sold], Disney is wanting to get ESPN and streaming in general off of the balance sheet by forming a consortium [collusion] with sports / content provider competitors in order to be able to control the market and halt / reverse the cost of content [sports among other content items]. The handwriting is on the wall, consolidation is taking place, oligopoly pricing and controlled dollar value distribution deals are on the way, the spiraling bubble and upward motion of dribble down cash flow has crested ~ we have seen the top, just in time for the NIL value to be yet another complexity to reduce interest in college football except for the elite programs committed to what will look like major infrastructure investment with limited payout. Breathlessly speaking the obvious ~ Welcome to the monkey house.
Probably about how old Denny Field used to look.
@RaceBannon! True??
I know its just a joke but the multiple iteration history of the field is an interesting trajectory… here are some pics of the early progression
Of course it started off as a dirt lot… with a coquettish mini grandstand.. notice the checkerboard cross hatching of the lines on the field ~ wonder what that was about..
later as cars entered the picture, the thing was to bring your favorite girl, park along the sidelines and tailgate party ~ cool idea
After going undefeated for a decade with Gilmore as the coach while playing luminary NW teams, seating demand picked up
in the 1920's,so grandstands sounded like a good idea, complete with the trench warfare to separate the crowd from the field…
By the 50's the upper deck had long since been in operation and stadium popularity was well established… Note the golf course on the right ~ I had
a lot of fun playing that as a montlake kid in the mid to late 50's.. on the stadium side of 23rd Ave, there were 3 holes ~ only 2 greens, you used a second
t box located half way down down the right hand edge of the3 parking lot for the short distance hole number 2 and used the same green as for hole
number 1. On the other side of 23rd, down by fisheries, oceanography and the hospital, there were another 6 holes… in the early 60's the growth of
medical facilities and fisheries eliminated the last 6 holes and the first 3 faded into non use.
People seem to be forgetting that the capacity was intentionally reduced when the stadium was remodeled. No way is it going to be made larger again.
Make it a "hot ticket!"
The moat was for drainage
it’s true that it was for drainage, but it was also to keep people off the field because it was a natural grass field that became a mess during the season at times (muddy) depending on the weather… I don’t remember when they finally installed Astro Turf ~ first iteration was crap and was a knee and ankle nightmare, plus reportedly felt like cement to land on.. dreamy stuff
1969 was the first turf
After going to the Husky/Duck game in Seattle last year, I can say that the noise between Husky Stadium and Autzen Stadium is very different. Which is better? I guess that depends on preference. The Husky stadium noise is a more intimidating booming sound. It’s deeper and kind of gives you the nervous chills, like something bad is about to happen to you. While Autzen is much more of a piercing sound. Not as intimidating, but it physically hurts your ears. I see Husky stadium noise giving you a sense of dread while Autzen noise creates utter chaos in not being able to think or communicate. Autzen can be tolerable if you’re prepared. But it’s harder to prep for Husky stadium, as it has a much more psychological effect than a physical one.
My verdict:
If you jack up the noise and make distractions an absolute bitch during practice week, Autzen can be neutralized and Husky stadium is worse. If you don’t prepare for that piercing sound, I think Autzen has a much higher ceiling for causing problems, as every aspect of your offense can be absolutely screwed. Husky stadium is tough regardless of prep if the fans bring it, but the ceiling isn’t as high. Although, consistency is a good thing.
Damn. This is a great description of HS. I've never been to Autzen but I will say this makes me think about HS compared to other stadiums I've been to. I assume it's the structure. I think someone else pointed it out this year that the HS crowd also responds just a little more to tuff defense.
