The question I haven't seen asked and answered yet

Did Bama finally pay Grubb's Washington contract buyout?
Only to have Grubb leave for the Seahawks?
This would be one of the funniest outcomes in all of this.
I realize they can afford it but they seemed to be doing everything they could to avoid paying the buyouts.

Quite frankly, I hope Grubb burned it all down for DeBag. Fuck that clown, and fuck him for removing him from a place he loved. DeBag is fucked without his single card OC rolodex stud in Grubb, and if he takes Huff, L-O-F-L!
-
Rumor has it that Grubb never signed a contract with 'Bama so the answer would be no. Again, its only a rumor but it makes sense.
-
Pretty sure the answer is no but if they did they surely had him under contract and will receive their own buyout from the Hawks. There's no way they paid it without signing him.
-
Despite all the chatter of this alleged buyout, I still haven't seen an actual number referenced. Or even confirmation of a buyout existing.
-
Not true. Grubbs buyout was $0 if he went to a Div 1 HC or NFL OC job at UW. I’d assume he had the same for Alabama.
-
How is DNC's post not true (in the off chance that what you posted is true)?
-
Simple. read what I wrote.
-
I’m sure this has been mentioned already but I think the incredible act of bad faith of continuing to present yourself as the bama OC while quite obviously negotiating your new gig as the hawks OC until the 30 day period was up for the transfer portal for Bama Players only to move on feels exactly like the bad faith exhibited by DeBoner during the lead up to the championship game… this is one big sleazy storyline for DeBoner and his loyal staff
-
The first part is true, $0 for D1 or NFL. Seattle Times had an article this time last year and it was $2m for another college OC job.
-
So we’re not getting anything for him. That sucks.
-
If he never signed with Bama, and we never got a buyout, then he was pretending to be the Alabama OC while under contract with UW. That would be some grade A horseshit, and probably grounds for UW to sue Alabama for the $2m buyout. If that’s what happened, he fucked UW to do DeWhore a solid.
-
Fucked UW? Grubb interviewed for the UW HC job, didn’t get it, and was offered the Bammer OC job. I’m having a hard time vilifying Grubb in any of this.
-
Agreed. I'm still pro-Grubb. He wanted to stay and keep it together. He and the family took one look around Tuscaloosa, then called his agent. "Get me the fuck outta here." If he proves himself as an excellent HC, I wouldn't kick if he came back some day.
-
Did you even read what I wrote? I understand why he left after not getting the HC job. I’m just saying if he fake accepted the Bama job and didn’t sign a contract with them on the off chance he might jump to the NFL, that’s a shitty move. He tricked kids into thinking he was going to Bama, and if he was pretending to be the OC at Bama without signing a contract with them, and while still under contract with UW, that’s bullshit.
-
On such things, my first chinclination (hai @Fire_Marshall_Bill !!1) is to think that there’s smart agents and lawyers on both sides of the deal and it’ll work out. Then I’m reminded that Kirk Ferentz not only has a job but a monstrous buyout, and back to square one knowing nothing.
-
exactly… an act of bad faith, amidst a string of acts of bad faith
-
I actually hope this is what happened. For once seeing someone else get fucked while benefiting my 1b. Fuck dedouche, fuck the tide, and as always, fuck the kids.
-
Rumor circulating is same thing above poster metioned. DeBoener staff was blindsided, jumped on ship and had a WTF moment.
-
I read what you wrote. I’m just underwhelmed by it.

So when do we hear the news about UW getting the $2M buyout? Sue Bama if that is what it takes.
Grubb was recruiting for them, and introduced himself at their booster function as the OC. Bama needs to pay up.
-
You would be suing Grubb, who per the terms of the contract with UW is who actually owes a buyout should it take place. Normal course is that Grubb would negotiate something with Bama that they would cover the $2m upon signing. UW and Bama had no contract with each other.
-
Obviously. But when/if Bama hired Grubb, they'd contractually agree to pay his buyout. Just like they did for DeBoer. So then, did Bama actually ever hire Grubb? Or not? Or instead, were they having him pretend to be their OC when he really wasn't?
-
You and others have said that UW should sue Alabama, my point was that isn't who you would sue for lack of buyout money being paid. Suing Grubb is probably not be a good idea, even if you win.
-
You can sue Bama. Claims for tortious interference with a contract, tortious interference with business relationships, civil conspiracy would probably survive a motion to dismiss. You'd have to bring the lawsuit in the Supreme Court.
-
we already have 3 lawyers here.
-
If he and Bama owe it, then they owe it. And if they officially hired him, they owe it. Grubb and Bama can decide who actually forks it over. Similar to car insurance... you sue the policy holder, but the insurance company pays.
-
Not how contract law works. As fosterworth pointed out, there are potentially other charges against Alabama for interference, etc. But Alabama has no direct liability for what is in Grubb's contract with UW. These are two seperate issues though.
This could already be moot if Dannen knowingly allowed this charade to take place. In which case he is an idiot for allowing Grubb to take part in poaching several players.
-
As soon as he posed as the OC at Alabama and they did not correct him they become culpable from a legal standpoint. They assume liability from that moment on ~ any judge would rule that way, especially as it relates to the fiduciary responsibility regarding the 30 day window to Bama kids that stayed or might have stayed as a consequence. Bama has no recourse but Washington does.
