Yes, in the big scheme of things anonymous internet message boards are meaningless.
But, there are quirks and traditions here that are fun and should be preserved. It's a large part of the appeal of this place.

I've discussed a compromise with Stalin in PM. I'll let him take it from there. People will still complain, but oh well. The Chincredible thing wasn't here originally. I wouldn't care if it was just temporary for a month and people could get their laughs, but it's lingered for years.
