Give Michigan their Roses

I was shocked to find Corum only runs for 4.7 yards per-carry. Their #2 back 3.5 and McCarthy 2.8 with decent mobility. Sure committing to the run with those numbers equals a first down in three downs, but they're pretty pedestrian numbers for 2023 college football.haie said:

Oregon ran for 204 at 5 yards a clip and still lost.haie said:
If they rush for 230 at 5 yards/c we are fucked.backthepack said:haie said:It's hard to judge how great they really are from their playoff game. Alabama was kind of a mess (so were they at times) and still had them in the 4th quarter.
Really hoping that like Texas, their defense is overrated. As PGOS stated, if they haven't played better than a top 40 offense then you can't really say that their defense is better than what UW just carved up.
What they did to Penn St worries me. UW will try to force McCarthy to beat them and I hope like everyone else this year, including Oregon/Utah/Texas, they will get spooked and think they have to throw it to keep up with the scoring.
The weather forecast has worried as well, but hopefully it isn't a cold rain + a shit ton of wind like in PNW.
huh?
My worry is they are pretty solid at every position and their secondary looks like it should be the best UW has faced and they don't give up points. -
Yeah, UW's OL is a lot better than Alabama's. Michigan is not going to do shit to Penix IMO.Sobchak_Security said:Keep reading and hearing that Michigan was "built to stop Ohio State and its receivers." They managed to give up 9.1 yards per attempt to Kyle McCord at home in 30 degree weather. Had one of his best games of the year.
Last time they played a true spread 'em out team, TCU put 50 on them.
I don't see it with Michigan. I think Michigan is a lot like Washington in that no one has watched them play. This team ran for 1.9 yards per rush and threw for 4.9 yards per attempt in a dome in its conference title game. It needed Bama to piss down its leg to advance. Bama literally couldn't snap the ball for half the game.
It got outgained at home by an Ohio State team that wasn't its normal juggernaut self. McCarthy has regularly thrown for 140 yards. Penn State repeatedly stepped on its own dick in a game that remained competitive to the end.
Michigan is fine but people have slotted them as the Alabama/Georgia of this year because people need a team to occupy that role. In reality, Georgia was the Georgia of this year. Everybody got a little lucky they played a bad half against Alabama. Michigan is not Georgia.
I keep hearing about the relentless pass rush but they sacked Kyle McCord one time in that game. If they're so fucking dominant, why weren't they dominant against a bunch of teams that looked like total shit any time they went out of conference. Ohio State sucked shit against a Notre Dame team that ended up being pretty average the one real time they went out of conference then embarrassed themselves against Missouri.
Penn State did nothing and lost to a mediocre Ole Miss team.
Tennessee looked better against Iowa than Michigan did. Bowls don't tell as big a story as they once did, but none of these teams were worth a shit.
Compare the amount of pressure UT got on Alabama early in the year to what they put on Penix this week. UW handled a UT line that caused problems for everybody else.
What UW presents is a far greater challenge than anything Michigan is prepared for.
UW has a much better chance of blowing out Michigan than they did Texas.

I don't see how Michigan has great secondary. They have not played a decent passing team all season. I don't think they are any match for Odunze, Polk, McMillan, Bernard, Westover....WoolleyDoog said:

The UW offense is a spaceship compared to what UM has played. -
This is the thing to me. I always thought with Texas and Oregon there was no way Washington's defense would ever stop them from scoring so they'd always be able to make it a game. Even though I think Michigan is a little better than those teams, there's a scenario where they get behind and McCarthy throws them out of the game the way he did against TCU last year.Kingdome_Urinals said:

If we can contain Corum, we win big. Donovan Edwards, their RB2 and pass catcher, has been straight up awful this year. Roman Wilson is the only weapon we need to worry about in terms of the pass.

I like what I'm reading

I agree UWs offense will be a life changing experience for Michigan and their fans. I worry about the run d after Texas. Will Morell force McCarthy to throw? I hope so

Michigan has a brutally powerful DL and the big deal difference is that they are a super smart defense that understands orchestrated timing plays to get a myriad of front 7 players inside the offense ~ unlike everyone else that we have played, they are going to make some big plays defensively.
Our brain trust knows that Michigan has a killer front 7 and they know how to use them to create havoc. We have to counter with precision, creative misdirection and fluid motion to keep the ball moving with small ball plays and some dagger shots mixed in. The Dwags can do it.
As everyone has said, the Dwags have a spaceship offense, but i think the real point is that they are tough fucking guys that can take a pounding while they deliver the kill shot. Here is to that ~ this will be the difference. -
UW needs to score early on deep balls or get some good stops early before the run game gets moving.
Michigan has a better run game than Oregon but not the perimeter or passing. We go up by 3 scores they are toast.
This will be Beavis but in a dome without the rainstorm. -
this. michigan running the ball, keeping uw offense off the field, uw offense cant get in rhythm.phineas said:my concern is washington not being able to stop the run and not facing sark who you can count on not to lean on it enough
flashbacks to the asu game.
if the defense can stop michigan running game then we? are champs.
