Pretty sure we still paying him to do nothing

I see that working somehow. Guy may never be a head coach again, but he has an impressive list of guys he’s helped get to the NFL.

Idk man, he looks pretty good. Maybe 9-3 given how challenged they are offensively in big 10. Can see him competing for the big 10 tittle every 3-4 yearsPostGameOrangeSlices said:

Lake didn’t want to put in the work when he was promoted— Kwat quit for a reason

If Lake gets hired, we stop paying him, right?
If so, Smith is doing us a double service since we'd free up some cash and get to kick his ass twice every 5 years -

B1G again. The west was the biggest clown division in sports and Iowa is slotting back into obscurity now they'll play an actual TUFF schedule again.
MSU has more potential, but contending every 3-4 years is a bit generous given the strength of competition. -
I have no idea how it works but I’ve always understood the buyouts to work like this:whatshouldicareabout said:If Lake gets hired, we stop paying him, right?
If so, Smith is doing us a double service since we'd free up some cash and get to kick his ass twice every 5 years
Coach gets $3 million/year in buyout money.
Coach gets new job paying $500,000.
Buyout money from school is now $2.5 million.
Again, that’s just my understanding. I have no idea how the money works out because I’ve always been paid in nacho cheese sauce. -
That's correct. Lake is with the rams but making like $100k so we're still on the hook.CFetters_Nacho_Lover said:

Yup, Jimbo didn't have this clause so he can get another head coaching job and continue cashing full checks from TAMU.Bob_C said:

Though he probably would have sued and then it could have gotten ugly enough to where DeBoer would have decided to go somewhere else.UW_Doog_Bot said:

At the same time, she could have pushed for a negotiated settlement (Lake receiving 60% of his buyout or something) but we'll never know.
Thankfully we have DeBoer and winning helps with a lot of money issues. -
Yeah, I'm actually with Jen on that. Firing a coach with cause for "striking" a player like he did with Fuavai is a great way to brand yourself as a school that will look for any hair trigger reason to fire someone. It's not a great tactic for attracting head coaching talent.HFNY said:UW_Doog_Bot said:

Negotiated buyout 100%.
Instead they rolled over and ate his contract.
They had leverage, they didn't use it because Jen would have cried to do that to a friend. -
It got you one of the best seasons in school history as a result. He was cratering the program. I don't feel bad even though it was weak.phineas said:the fake outrage about lake "hitting" a player really pissed me off.

I used to beat my little leaguers and coed AYSO team harder than that. That was wrong too though. I always wished they would fire me. -
If I recall correctly, Iowa has three protected rivals that suck so they are guaranteed at least 3 easy games per year. Still, they are doomed.GreenRiverGatorz said:

Didn't 90% of this bored call for Smith to be fired as OC here about 6,000 times?
