Yeah, on paper it has the makings of a shootout. I'd like Texas chances better in a lower scoring game, I think.
Also... I've been to New Orleans about 1000 times if anybody needs any restaurant or bar recs. There is a place close to the French Quarter where you can buy a fried shrimp po-boy and they will give you a free rickshaw ride to the game. Let me know if anybody needs a hookup there. -

Stat wise in conference games Texas is a poorer version of Oregon (particularly on D) … but in a worse conference
What the Texas people don’t get is how we run so much toss sweep as a means to out leverage and complement the passing game
Not saying that the Texas DTs aren’t good (they are) … but we should be able to neutralize them a bit

Texas’ defense is fast. They will be the fastest team UW has played at the second level. Your WRs and your QB though impress the hell out of me. They are going to make plays and this is going to be one hell of a ball game.
As a Texas fan, I’ve been following UW all season and been saying they should be one of the favorites from the beginning.
Texas is light years better than they were the last time we played y’all. But I think UW very well may be the most complete team I’ve seen this year.
I did not want to play UW… would rather have played either of the other 2 (already beat Bama)… I think Texas can pull it out but I think it’s going to be a classic

You may be right and your team is talented and fast, but Oregon was the sweetheart pick by many to cause damage in the playoffs and were ranked above you guys the entire year.
That is until Washington shoved the ball down their throats for over 450 yards on a neutral field.
As impressive as your Bama win was, the OU loss with a healthy Ewers was a result of your gassed defense bending over in the last 2 minutes. -

If you really watch what UW does offensively in detail, you'll notice that the run game is a supplement to the passing game
The offense does a ton of shifting pre-snap and it's with a purpose whether it's trying to isolate a matchup, force a change to a defensive call, or something as simple as just getting the defenders out of position.

UW's primary 2 run plays are a toss sweep and a counter ... what makes them so difficult to defend is that they go in opposite directions and it really forces challenges on the defensive possession.
Here, Oregon is lined up at the top of the formation with a 3 versus 3 situation and over-indexing itself at the bottom half of the formation protecting against the counter and any drags/crossers/motions across the formation. Based on the formation you can almost guarantee that Oregon's slanting in the run game towards the top of the formation.
At the snap, the toss element basically torpedoes any of the backside pursuit given the location and with the pulling linemen you find that UW's at a 6 vs 4 advantage in blocking ... that's going to be a WIN each and every time.
The only chance that Oregon has to defend the play is for the CB defending Rome to instantly attack the edge and get in before the pulling OL can get in front ... problem with that is in that formation if you do that then you're giving Rome a free release for a slant/post to the back end of the endzone wide open.
I can go pull any number of these types of plays and highlight that Washington's run game is a supplement to the pass game and looks to attack in favorable numbers.
The other area where these type of plays are going to cause problems is that the consensus way to slow Penix down is to blitz through the G-C-G gaps and put pressure in his face and try to take advantage of his release point being relatively lower than it should be. If you're showing a middle blitz, then it's also creating opportunities for the UW offense to outflank on the edge with numbers.
It's an offense that is going to consistently cause problems in that they'll more often than not get you to declare what you're trying to take away and what you're giving up ... when they are operating at their top end it's taking the easy plays and operating very efficiently.
