Positives

1. Defense
Played really well. Especially considering that they were put in bad spots all game long. They still have to show against spread teams. We all know the Wilcox trick of being good against Stanford but not being able to stop the spread to save your life. But this was a good first step.
2. Uhhh
3. Stanford is the best defense we'll play all year
I don't think anyone is encouraged by Miley's play. The offense as a whole was bad. But there are some tit dirt defenses in the Pac-12. The offense will be better.
4. Yeah I've got nothing else

I was encouraged that they got consistent pressure on Hogan after halftime. That's it.

I am hoping Stanford really is the best D in the league. If Cyrus the Virus isn't a total fucktard he should get better and he got put through the flames today. It was his second start against a real team. We couldn't run and he isn't savy enough yet to beat teams by himself.
The defense is a surprise. But if they were great they stop Stanford after the fake punt. They are good We still haven't seen them against spread type teams like you said. Wilcock could have coached today.
Most of the people mad at Petermen wanted Kuntkowskie fired last week so that's how it goes.
Petermen is making do with what he has and as always, decisions always look fucking stupid when they fail. There is a defense of the call because if it works we probably win. Our offense was truly bad. If you want to blame the coach for something start there.
Petermen needs to get the O fixed up and either fix Miley or shoot him in the back of the head.
Glad to see people pissed off about losing again. It should hurt and it should come down to a play here or there to dissect.
Losing sucks. Let's see where we go from here -
I forgot Durkee. He's a beast.

If the fake punt works, UW still has to get 20+ yards to try a FG. High risk, low reward = bad decision.

I'm already getting ready to wait until next year. -

This is how I see it as well. Offense showed you nothing all day that they would be able to pick up point even if you get that first. Petersen tried to hit too many home runs in the 2nd half because he was panicking because of how much of a fucking dreckfest that "offense" was today.TierbsHsotBoobs said:If the fake punt works, UW still has to get 20+ yards to try a FG. Petersen deserves shit for that 2nd half today. As long as this kind of decision making doesn't become a pattern like Sark then it is what it is... Just a poorly coached half of football. It happens to all the good coaches at one point or another, we will see how he bounces back. -
This is what blows my mind. You do a fake punt if your punter sucks, your punt coverage is terrible, your offense is clicking, it's relatively short yardage to a first down, and your defense is getting steam rolled.TierbsHsotBoobs said:If the fake punt works, UW still has to get 20+ yards to try a FG. We were literally in the exact opposite situation. There is zero reason for that fake punt. Fuck with our offense even if it worked we would have likely stalled out at the 40 yard line anyways.
The only way that trick punt would have been in a worse situation is if it would have been 4th and 20+ instead of 4th and 6 -
UW needs to stop recruiting lazy Offensive Lineman.

Good news: We still play in the Pac-12
Bad news: We lost and looked depressingly bad in the 2nd half (adjustments?) -
Here's the thing I don't get, we were playing Stanford. I'm not into moral victories. But this "depressingly bad" shit doesn't make any sense. That's a good team. Losing to the second best team in the league by 7 is not enough to freak out over.PurpleJ said:Good news: We still play in the Pac-12

We didn't score a point in the 2nd half, playing at home. Isn't that pretty bad?allpurpleallgold said:

Shelton, Shaq, Peters and Kikaha looked like we expect them too. Budda Baker took a real step forward. Twatkowski may actually be able to coach. There's some real positives on that side of the ball, and Durkee as you mentioned.
Otherwise, yikes. -
If this Stanford defense is as good as the one that is the only one out west that can stop Oregon, then we don't need to panic yet. If Cal shuts us down we have a major crisis and I would advise panic at that point
-
This. I will jump off the ledge if the offense sucks against Cal, ASU, etc. We need to run the ball well in order to be successful. As bad as Miles was, 38 for 81, 2.1 ypc in the running game isn't going to get it done. If we are counting on Miley to beat them with his arm, it's over. I would have liked to see a little more creativity in the run game.RaceBannon said:If this Stanford defense is as good as the one that is the only one out west that can stop Oregon, then we don't need to panic yet. So Race is now a Doog and happiness about losing by 7 exists. This is cute. -
Stanford's defense looks good against teams who players seem more interested in their Twitter feeds than their strength and conditioning. UW just doesn't play an aggressive style of defense anymore. Where Stanford has UW beat is that they field players who are physically prepared to play. The UW fields a bit too many tweeners that aren't even fast.
Our best players are the fastest players (Shaq, Kikaha, Peters, Ross III, Shelton) Don James knew this and he put up with years where he didn't win as many games to develop players. -
You're really going for the catch phrases tonight. Still pressing. Not wanting to fire the coach after his first loss is hardly dooging.Mosster47 said:allpurpleallgold said:

I understand people will be ripping the fake punt for ever. Its the internet. Get over it, we have bigger issues than that -
I'm not on the ledge yet, but that 2nd half performance and the fake punt was indefensible. I'm not going to judge Pete 5 games into year one, especially with his record. But dammit that game pissed me off and it was very winnable.
-
We should be pissed. I hope the players are too
-
You've actually kind of won me over on the fake punt. I still think punting was the right move. But if there are people defending it then it's at least controversial. My initial reaction was that was idiotic he has to know better and that worried me. But if people think it was the right call, or at least defensible, then I feel better about it.RaceBannon said:

I think punting was the right move as well and I was pissed that he faked it. But I understand why he did.

why?RaceBannon said:I think punting was the right move as well and I was pissed that he faked it. But I understand why he did.

the only problem I have with the fake punt is where Washington was where they did it. They should have been at Stanford's 35 or 40 when you are in no mans land for a field goal and a punt does not do you much good and then try a fake with Shaq Thompson.
-
He saw a defense that was getting tired and an offense that was legally retarded. He wanted to light a spark and get some points while keep his D off the field. If he gets the lead he can unleash the pass rush that Stanford couldn't handle.Houhusky said:

It didn't work so he's a moron. That's the way it is -
This. Maybe I'm stuck in 1965 but you never fake punt in your own territory. It's not the Party Bowl vs. Oklahomo where are you have nothing to lose and your stupid running back proposes to loose cheerleaders on the sideline.sdawg14 said:the only problem I have with the fake punt is where Washington was where they did it. It's depressingly bad because our QB is Fouch-esque throwing to a team of DiAndre Campbell WRs.allpurpleallgold said:

Because the defense was already gassed and the offense can't generate anything on it's own.Houhusky said:
