From the Times:

"(opening) Let’s start with the positive because I’m just such a positive guy: I thought the kids’ play in the second half was good, was inspiring, was the way football should be played. I thought the first half was about as bad a football as I’ve been around maybe ever. I want to give Georgia State credit; they were executing and doing a nice job. But it wasn’t anything that we hadn’t seen before, and for whatever reason the kids didn’t show up to play in the first half, and that’s on me. So we’ll analyze, we’ll adjust and get ’em going.”

(Did you sense that coming during the week?) “Nope. I thought we practiced hard. I thought we had probably our best week of practice. I think for whatever reason, you lose your edge for one second around here, that’s exactly what will happens.”

(Are you guys ready for Stanford?) “Did you just see what I saw? I know we’re not ready.”

(halftime) “The approach was, everybody just needs to do their job. That’s the bottom line. Stopping looking around at what’s going on. Take care of your responsibility. Get your energy up and go play. It’s not rocket science here. It’s pretty easy: You could see there was very uninspired football the first half. To those guys’ credit, they did adjust. Sometimes there’s a tendency to panic a little bit, and I thought they honed in and focused and got some things done.”

(on John Ross) I think he’s week to week. We really don’t know. We’re still just trying out … he did some stuff later in the week. We’ll see. We’ll know more in a few day. … He’s got a leg injury.”

(How much did some of Georgia State’s blitzes surprises you in the first half?) “They didn’t surprise me in the slightest. Obviously, it surprised our entire offense.”

(on Cyler Miles) “I thought he was getting blitzed, things weren’t getting picked up. On occasion when they were, I thought he panicked. That’s what I saw from the sideline.”

(on Marcus Peters) “Really nice interception on that (second) one. I know he drug his foot. … It’s good to get these turnovers. Our defense was trying to hold in there. I thought Georgia State had a good game plan in that first half, kind of short passes and hitting them in the seams. They can throw the ball. They threw for a lot of yards the week before and they proved that (again). So that shouldn’t be surprising to our guys that they were going to come out doing that.”

(Was way Peters responded consistent with the way he played all week?) “He did everything we asked. He came back and practiced hard. Again, I thought our team practiced hard. I don’t know why we didn’t show up. You just lose that edge a little bit, and that can happen.”

(on Georgia State going after freshman corner Sidney Jones) “Yeah, Sidney’s got to tighten some things up. I think it’s more of an attitude adjustment than anything else. We just gotta play harder and play tighter. We have enough in our arsenal all three phases to help guys out. We just need to play better. We need to play tighter coverage and fly around better, which we kind of saw (in the second half). Everybody’s good when it’s all going good. That’s kind of front-runner mentality. Again, I thought our guys played hard getting us back into it. I was pleased with the second half. I’m just still irritated on the first half.”

(is this a strange feeling after a big win?) “Well, again, we’ll pick out the positive things and build from there. But there’s a lot to learn from the other side. Our whole thing is, Are we playing as well as we can? And I think everybody in this room knows the answer to that, and I think that’s when it gets really frustrating. Hey, if we get beat and we play well and they’re just better than us, you don’t like it, but you can live with it. But when you’re not living up to your potential, for whatever reason, that’s just really sad and irritating to a coach.”"


Some thoughts from Peterman. Looks like a bunch of coach-speak, so idrgaf. In reference to Sidney Jones, there was one play in the first half where Georgia threw in front of him but he ended the play standing up because one of the linebackers had come over and made the tackle. The dbs really need to fly around a little bit more, not be afraid to hit. It may be a scheme thing, where they have the corners playing off, holding up the receivers, and then waiting for help, but that's definitely not how big boy football is played in the SEC.
