Welcome to the Hardcore Husky Forums. Folks who are well-known in Cyberland and not that dumb.
He said that was the worst half of football he has ever been around. He also said the team is nowhere near ready to play Stanford. I love that he is still pissed about the first half. I think next week will be a very tough game, but Race and Sven have a point. Petersen is going to get their attention this week.

Get it right.
He's going to have them on edge this week after this preseason. So much better to win ugly with this group then to cruise and think they are hot shit.
This team should be 5-0 rolling into Berkeley for the Pac-12 North championship game.
"(opening) Let’s start with the positive because I’m just such a positive guy: I thought the kids’ play in the second half was good, was inspiring, was the way football should be played. I thought the first half was about as bad a football as I’ve been around maybe ever. I want to give Georgia State credit; they were executing and doing a nice job. But it wasn’t anything that we hadn’t seen before, and for whatever reason the kids didn’t show up to play in the first half, and that’s on me. So we’ll analyze, we’ll adjust and get ’em going.”
(Did you sense that coming during the week?) “Nope. I thought we practiced hard. I thought we had probably our best week of practice. I think for whatever reason, you lose your edge for one second around here, that’s exactly what will happens.”
(Are you guys ready for Stanford?) “Did you just see what I saw? I know we’re not ready.”
(halftime) “The approach was, everybody just needs to do their job. That’s the bottom line. Stopping looking around at what’s going on. Take care of your responsibility. Get your energy up and go play. It’s not rocket science here. It’s pretty easy: You could see there was very uninspired football the first half. To those guys’ credit, they did adjust. Sometimes there’s a tendency to panic a little bit, and I thought they honed in and focused and got some things done.”
(on John Ross) I think he’s week to week. We really don’t know. We’re still just trying out … he did some stuff later in the week. We’ll see. We’ll know more in a few day. … He’s got a leg injury.”
(How much did some of Georgia State’s blitzes surprises you in the first half?) “They didn’t surprise me in the slightest. Obviously, it surprised our entire offense.”
(on Cyler Miles) “I thought he was getting blitzed, things weren’t getting picked up. On occasion when they were, I thought he panicked. That’s what I saw from the sideline.”
(on Marcus Peters) “Really nice interception on that (second) one. I know he drug his foot. … It’s good to get these turnovers. Our defense was trying to hold in there. I thought Georgia State had a good game plan in that first half, kind of short passes and hitting them in the seams. They can throw the ball. They threw for a lot of yards the week before and they proved that (again). So that shouldn’t be surprising to our guys that they were going to come out doing that.”
(Was way Peters responded consistent with the way he played all week?) “He did everything we asked. He came back and practiced hard. Again, I thought our team practiced hard. I don’t know why we didn’t show up. You just lose that edge a little bit, and that can happen.”
(on Georgia State going after freshman corner Sidney Jones) “Yeah, Sidney’s got to tighten some things up. I think it’s more of an attitude adjustment than anything else. We just gotta play harder and play tighter. We have enough in our arsenal all three phases to help guys out. We just need to play better. We need to play tighter coverage and fly around better, which we kind of saw (in the second half). Everybody’s good when it’s all going good. That’s kind of front-runner mentality. Again, I thought our guys played hard getting us back into it. I was pleased with the second half. I’m just still irritated on the first half.”
(is this a strange feeling after a big win?) “Well, again, we’ll pick out the positive things and build from there. But there’s a lot to learn from the other side. Our whole thing is, Are we playing as well as we can? And I think everybody in this room knows the answer to that, and I think that’s when it gets really frustrating. Hey, if we get beat and we play well and they’re just better than us, you don’t like it, but you can live with it. But when you’re not living up to your potential, for whatever reason, that’s just really sad and irritating to a coach.”"
Some thoughts from Peterman. Looks like a bunch of coach-speak, so idrgaf. In reference to Sidney Jones, there was one play in the first half where Georgia threw in front of him but he ended the play standing up because one of the linebackers had come over and made the tackle. The dbs really need to fly around a little bit more, not be afraid to hit. It may be a scheme thing, where they have the corners playing off, holding up the receivers, and then waiting for help, but that's definitely not how big boy football is played in the SEC.
“They didn’t surprise me in the slightest. Obviously, it surprised our entire offense.”
That's not really coach speak. Psychologically motivating, yes. Coach speak, no.
I also expect us to come out and play our best game of the season (to date) next week against Stanford.
In many ways, today was the best thing that could have happened to this team.
“We took them lightly. Plain and simple,” said sophomore quarterback Cyler Miles, who completed 19 of 27 passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns. “I’m not gonna sugarcoat nothin’. Our team took them lightly, and we can’t do that. I saw from the middle of the week, we were sloppy, and we came out kind of just, ‘Whatever.’ We can’t ever do that.”
Gotta love Peterson's honesty:
And particularly concerning with 16th-ranked Stanford visiting Husky Stadium next week for the Huskies’ Pac-12 opener.
Are they ready?
“Did you just see what I saw?” Petersen spat. “I know we’re not ready.”
Try taking those words lightly.

The kids are shitting their pants right now.
He didn't call anyone out ... but those who fucked up know who he is talking about.
When he said he wasn't shocked but everyone on offense was ... I felt he was referring to his coaching staff too.
He's a damn good coach.
What's he supposed to say ...
I knew we would come out and shit the bed.
No matter how much Petersen tells the stench of Seven's players that they have to respect everybody and compete on every play, a lot of the front running players won't get the message until they experience it.
Think about it this way ... how many times do you see someone about to make a stupid decision, someone tries to give them suggestions to do something different, the dumbass tells the person to F off. They go on to make the stupid decision and then learn from it and admit that they were in fact a dumbass. That's what we got yesterday.
Here's the positives from yesterday:
1) Players came out thinking that they didn't need to respect their opponents from Snap #1 and paid for it (this will come in handy later in the conference season when we're playing road games against teams like Colorado and Cal) where a slow start and taking for a granted a win could actually put you far enough behind that you can't make it up
2) A combination of a complete ass chewing AND halftime adjustments led to a completely dominating 2nd half performance - I know Georgia State didn't get a 1st down for at least a quarter and a half. Not only was there the ass chewing and the adjustments, but the players listened and executed afterwards.
3) Special teams took the lead in turning the game around - which further preaches to the players the fact that Petersen wants to win in 3 phases of the game ... all considered equal. There will be a game that we win this year in conference because of special teams whereas with Seven we lost at least a game a year because of special teams.
We'll play our best game next Saturday ...
There will be continued growing pains next year, and I do think it's unlikely that we don't fall on our face somewhere during the year ... but there's also absolutely no reason to not have the sweatpants at full mast right now.
