Uh, is silicone pellets sort of like sand?

Omg we are all fooked, now if it was an ammonia car that would be a story.

Not exactly, it depends on the type, silica, yes, that'sWestlinnDuck said:Uh, is silicone pellets sort of like sand?
like sand, but there are many forms of silica/silicon/silicone and whether its pure or a carbide media for blasting or micro prill, pellet..or..?
The article says "not a threat to the public" but that's not necessarily true either it just depends on the material how much and how fine.
Being exposed to silica dust can lead to silicosis...

Sure. But it isn't dust, it is a pellet.Blueduck said:

The pellets can have some amount of dust also.WestlinnDuck said:

It's a stupid headline trying to make something out of nothing. A train derailed and spilled some sand. The horror. Like there wouldn't be some dust with the sand.Blueduck said:

The pellets can be vacuumed up. I know, I have done it myself. We used silicone media all the time in my chemical business and we repackaged for an OEM. If it makes it to the sewer or a lake, that could create a mess for sure but no one is dying from this leakage.
