Since everyone's posting pictures of their kids these days, thought I'd share something fun that I recently finished.
When I was first setting up my VMC, I asked my kids what they wanted me to make for them. My daughter didn't really have any ideas, but my son instantly said "a sword!"
It's taken a year to get the machine in good running order and figure out how to run it, but I decided to give it a go. Machining a sword ended up being a lot more challenging than I had anticipated. There's a reason they're usually forged. I made it work, though, and the results are great:

Started as a 30 pound block of CRS that he couldn't even lift off the ground. Whole sword now weighs under 5 pounds. Still heavy, but not sure I could have made it any thinner unless I wanted to take up forging. It's about three feet long in total. The first letter of his name is A, hence the letter on the guard.
My hope now is that my son and this sword are never featured in the news...

Glad to know the A is for his name and not Allahu Akbar.

I feel really let down that @1to392831weretaken doesn’t have a proper blacksmith set up and can’t forge steel from iron like a REAL SWord maker.

I think even if I wanted to do that, my shoulder and lower back would complain quite loudly. That's for real, manly men, not the minivan guy. Besides, I don't want to grow a hipster mustache/beard, wear skinny jeans, or get tattoos.YellowSnow said:I feel really let down that @1to392831weretaken doesn’t have a proper blacksmith set up and can’t forge steel from iron like a REAL SWord maker.
I do have a setup for sand casting aluminum, though. -
