    Probably not a big deal now but in the shared culture era there was always a disconnect between the critic and consumer. The more popular a band or movie the more the critics turned up their nose

    That band is too commercial - meaning they sold millions of albums and made millions of dollars

    I'd want to be in that band. I'll take the shitty review
    It's oft been said that the Beatles were perhaps the only artist(s) in any medium who were simultaneously the most popular and the best (in the eyes of the critics).

    Godfather = The Beatles.
