Lots of anecdotal chatter out there over the years that Trump often dismissed what his staff tells him. Many ex-staffers report that “managing” him was next to impossible due to various combinations of “I’m smarter than all of you,” short attention span and the aforementioned weakness for flattery. So it’s always possible that they told him to not do it.
