Penalties for what? Restarting their own gas line? To sell a product that the Euros needs so they don't freeze to death or go broke trying?RatherBeBrewing said:The Russians did it. Act of god, force majeure, the sacred Gazprom cow has been untouchable but if they ever restart energy sales in the future they don’t want to pay any penalties.
They had the pressure in it down to almost nil for weeks, they cut the main overland route though Ukraine. Germany had already filled their reserves, and Putin is in his end game and he wanted to make sure the “West” understands - since half of the EU are a particularly Pollyanna type of optimistic dimwits.
Putin had his most unhinged moment to date, in his annexation ceremony today. Busiest week since February. Trying to mobilize a million Russians, while a third of a million men or more have fled in just one week. It’s beyond belief, but the Ukrainians have turned his army into cat food. I never thought it would happen, but the only way they might be able to stop this is with a small nuke and see what the reaction is.
Failure to maintain the pipeline which cause the explosion makes sense. The Russians have zero motivation otherwise to blow up their own cash cow. -

The Throbber is neutral with regards to Ukraine and Russia.
Both countries have nice titties.

FTD isn’t just Fuck the Ducks. Gazprom has contracts, failure to deliver short of act of God or failure on receiver triggers penalties. Gazprom wouldn’t pay, but they and subsidiaries have a multitude of assets to seize all over the EU and UK.PurpleThrobber said:

What: The Russians cut gas delivery to Europe by 75% on June 1. Before the break the pressure was at 20 cubic meters instead of the usual 170. Nat gas prices in the EU have doubled. Russia has blamed technical
difficulties to excuse themselves while also openly admitting why it’s reducing supply.
Why: Response to sanctions and support for Ukraine. Putin literally explained this in the most black and white terms: Europeans will have to be cold this winter and their economy will be hurt.
How: It was almost certainly rigged with explosives in multiple places, likely planted by Russian underwater drones back in June from ships that violated Denmark’s territory. Putin says the Anglo-Saxons did it.
Is Putin crazy? People are starting to understand that Putin considers this an existential conflict and the West is the great Satan to him. He doesn’t give a fuck about lost income, and knew that the Euros were about to be independent of his energy because of this war within the next year or two - he just sped up the process to inflict maximum damage and weaken resolve. -

I still may have to give the edge to Venezuela. I'm thinking we must create a nonprofit of importing hot chicks

General “Buck” Turgidson: Mr. President, if I may speak freely, the Russkie talks big, but frankly, we think he’s short of know how. I mean, you just can’t expect a bunch of ignorant peons to understand a machine like some of our boys. And that’s not meant as an insult, Mr. Ambassador, I mean, you take your average Russkie, we all know how much guts he’s got. Hell, lookit all them them the Nazis killed off and they still wouldn’t quit.
