What do we think of the new 4-2-5 defense?

This defense stops the pass by selling out in the pass rush and forcing the QB off his spot and to throw under duress. Guys like Trice and Martin, who would have played out of position at the "Buck" in our last scheme, are now tasked with setting the edge and chasing the QB. Two things that both of them do very well. We still have good defensive lineman but they are not two-gap guys like Vea, Gaines or Levi. All we ask the defensive line guys to do is get upfield instead of anchoring the interior by taking on double teams.
The last defensive scheme required that you have a lot of players with unique skill sets. This scheme is much simpler and much more plug and play with the guys who we can get year-in, year-out.

I miss BUCK

With our CB play maybe Safeties should be 20 yard deep and backpedalling at the snap
-
I started hating the K defense after the 2017 Stanford game.

His defense put too much on the interior DL to be world beaters. When they were it looked like purple shirts were everywhere. It was a smothering defense.
It's been a train wreck post Greg Gaines. -
One of the worst college football players I've ever seen. And he had NFL measurables. I'll never forget how bad he played against Notre Dame in 2009. Go to 2:23:00 and watch what shitty effort he gave giving up this touch down:WilburHooksHands said:

The two point conversion was a poor effort as well. What was Chrichton doing? I’d forgotten how many chances there were for UW to win that game. I just remembered the goal line shenanigans.
-
The Kwat defense died when playing teams like Stanford who has 7'3" tight ends.
If the D couldn't get pressure on the QB with 2 down lineman and a few edge sealers then we got fucked.
The Kwat D could work even better at Texas because they can recruit Vea/Gaines types plus elite athletes and talent all over the 'backer and secondary corps. Development is always the issue there. -
-
Mostly the same players as last year and we have stopped the run so I like it
-
I would like to see UW blitz more. If the CBs can’t cover than give QB less time to find the open man.
-
They have ro send LBs on inside blitzes a lot and pish him out to Martin amd Smalls who are both stout holding the edge. Darth Moll and Bright are both guys I'd like to see going after McKee a lot. Moll jumped out several times on TV. Not sure how many snaps he's getting but he's quick and physical out there.alumni94 said:I would like to see UW blitz more. I still don't have an issue with the Kwat defense as your base scheme. My complaint was and still is that they were too inflexible with it/committed to it and wouldn't adjust the one or two games a year they needed to (Stanford). It just got progressively more protective of the secondary and unwilling to gaf about the run, especially the more influence Lake got.
Butt yeah the way this defense gets after the passer is more fun. -
My memory from post game gifs in 2020 was that they were putting a big DL package out there against furd, typically with three DTs on the field. It just wasn't working.dnc said:I still don't have an issue with the Kwat defense as your base scheme. Then again those gifs were mostly redzone plays, inside the five even, so those could've just been goal line packages. Either way they didn't work at all. -
Our goal line offense in the MSU game gave me flashbacks of this gamelouism2wash said:

I watched a few minutes. How did ND get a packed house at kick off. Probably no traffic from Chicago on I-90 and Hamilton wasn’t invented yet.
