The point is actually what the NCAA rulebook says about promising benefits beyond those given to other student athletes. Even if it's against the rules, they'll probably dismiss it as heresay (unless someone was so dumb as to put it into writing / email / text.

We were in mid-investigation (HAMMER! END OF THE MONTH!!!) when Lyerla was being recruited. Pretty sure this never happened.
