True story from his autobiography... In the 1950s he was playing a gig in Seattle. He got arrested for shoplifting at a drug store downtown. Spent a night in jail. He did it in order to buy heroin.

He was a beyond troubled person. Amazing talent... and his collaboration with Joao and Astrud Gilberto brought bossa nova to the US.
