My Four In-Person Rose Bowls

I saw the following in-person. Now that the Rose Bowl is going to become even more of a relic, I thought it might make for an interesting thread.

1991 Washington 46, Iowa 34
Random memory: Watching Prince's Under the Cherry Moon in the hotel room. The movie was in black and white and I don't even remember what it was about.

1992 Washington 34, Michigan 14
Random memory: Getting up early the next morning and going to the Continental breakfast to watch ESPN and see if UW won the National Chamionship.

1993 Michigan 38, Washington 31
Random memory: Watching Tyrone Wheatley run 88 yards for a touchdown, and one of my dad's frat brothers lamenting that the Husky D got outran by a "slow lard-ass Michigan running back"... And I was quick to point out Wheatley was a champion in the 110m high hurdles.

2001 Washington 34, Purdue 24
Random memory: Trying to get into the stadium before the game. All the Purdue fans were coming from their tailgates to get to the their side of the stadium, while UW fans were coming from the opposite direction to get to their seats, and it ended up being an epic logjam outside the stadium.

My parents left me with the baby sitter to go to the 1978 Rose Bowl. Jerks.

I got left with grandma when the rest of the family went to the 1961 Rose Bowl so I missed both National Championship games

Thank god Keith Jackson didn't live long enough to see the death of college football.

If I had known the 2019 Rose Bowl would be my college football Waterloo I would have gotten drunker, and I was pretty lit up by kick with 805 beers and @Dennis_DeYoung 's shitty ass mai tais.

I remember thinking we'll probably be back soon for more but enjoy it now since these things can be fickle.

Little did I know that 3.5 years later the Rose Bowl would be dead.

The end came gradually, then suddenly.

How the fuck did Iowa score 34?

Wheatley was the first Derrick Henry.

What kind of utter bullshit had to happen that we? didn't play in 2001(I know this is off topic)

Somehow one of my dads got tickets to the ‘92 game that were WAY too close to the Michigan section/band, and I wanted to light myself on fire after listening to the Michigan fight song every 81 seconds…

    LOL, Race.

You were like 5-years-old @ that time . . . Scarred for life.

Did you watch it on television? LOL

What was your excuse for missing the 1992 game (1991 Team)?

Growing up down there, I was a USC hater.

If I remember right, UW was ahead 33-7 at halftime. The first team defense got pulled halfway through the third quarter. Iowa had a huge running back named Nick Bell and he started running wild against the backups. Then in the fourth quarter, Iowa recovered a couple of onside kicks. When it got to 46-34 with maybe 6:00 left, Coach James sent the first team defense back into the game.
