Tough if the settlement offer isn't reasonable. Especially is a small family business is involved. The actual value is pretty transitory and often largely rests on the personal services of the husband. Then like in this case custody issues arise. $75,000 for Stanford might make sense. $75,000 for Reed College doesn't. Don't know much about "adult support" law in Washington. The actual requirement should be pretty clear if the kids are over 18. Mom sounds crazy. I have 2 friends who each dropped well over a million. One case lasted 2 years and the other 3. I never understand why the woman would want $500k less when both men were willing to give their ex millions? In each case, the woman was responsible for the divorce. Make one attempt to get to a settlement with the ex- . It's a community property state so assets are split they way they are split - 50/50 for everything during the marriage. Come up with a reasonable parenting plan if kids are involved. Write down the main points. Take it to any competent lawyer to draw up the documents. Sign the papers.
Then save tens of thousands of dollars and skip the divorce attorney. He'll end up exactly where you would have been in the first place before the two opposing attorneys run their scam and billable hours up.
One version 1.0, I think I dropped something like $15 or $20K in early 2000 bucks and got back to EXACTLY the same spot she and I mapped out on a napkin at Starbucks. -

They are both A students and have almost full rides.
