I do think they need some understanding, but single motherhood relying on the state to pay for her kid and take care of it should definitely be seen as a moral failure. You can scorn a pregnant mother for drinking or smoking but not for being pregnant with no support mechanisms? For some reason, in my peer group there were no single mothers. People got divorced, but the father stayed as the father and the kids had two live in parents for their formative years - 0 to say middle school.Kaepsknee said:

My dad left as I was about to enter high school because my older brother and sister were above child support age. So I was raised as a high schooler by a single mom
And I raised hell across the city
It's supposedly "cultural" to have as many baby mamas as possible over the last few decades. And it is a cycle that repeats.
The white trailer park and the black ghetto are similar in this regard by the way
