Jaywalking laws are racist
Black people make up 9% of the population in Los Angeles, but they were 31% of the people stopped by the Los Angeles Police Department for jaywalking from 2018 to 2020.
These disparities are not just in Los Angeles; Black adults in California’s 15 largest law enforcement jurisdictions were almost 10 times more likely than white adults to be cited for minor infractions like jaywalking, according to a 2020 study by a Bay Area civil rights committee. The group also found that Latinos were nearly six times more likely to receive citations.

They were told not to jaywalk
Beat the fuck out of them -
If I'm being honest, this is one of the few instances in which I can see there being a disproportionate application of a law against minorities. Whether that's racially motivated is debatable, but this strikes me as something that's more likely to be enforced in low income areas.

And freeze their bank accounts! Oh, that's right, can't get a bank account without ID. Never mind.RaceBannon said:They were told not to jaywalk

Race wants to take this in another direction, blob.
I’m beginning to think he pays more attention to me than you do.

You support the cops being racist. No need to travel familiar ground
Those people were told not to use the lunch counter -

The city is where it happens. More minorities in the city. I got a jaywalk ticket at Pike Place Market once -
Purely anecdotal but I suspect that most jaywalking infractions are handed out in urban areas. Los Angeles is notorious for handing out JW tickets. I've been cited for it when I lived there. These laws are not just enforced in low income areas, in fact I would argue they are mostly enforced in upper income areas, more likely to get people who will pay the fines in those areas, but the people walking around in LA and especially Jaywalking are definitely more low income. I know that most of the jay walkers I encounter are usually black guys often holding their dicks as they cross the street. Again, your mileage may vary.Sources said:If I'm being honest, this is one of the few instances in which I can see there being a disproportionate application of a law against minorities. And minorities are far more likely to be walking around especially in LA where nobody walks if they don't have to.RaceBannon said:

Being "poor" is generally because of bad behavior. Bad in that they often have a criminal record, skipped school and are functionally illiterate and have problems with details, like renewing your vehicle registration tags and fixing broken tail lights. These same people are going to walk against a Don't Walk light. Anyone with a brain knows this. If they wanted an accurate study they would set up some cameras in a variety of neighborhoods and tally the percentage of jaywalkers by race. They basically do this with traffic light cameras and guess what?RaceBannon said:

And that's why traffic light cameras along with credit scores are racist. What do you want to bet that the people who get the least JW tickets are Asians?WestlinnDuck said:
