I've watched the opening 20 minutes of FMJ a dozen times at least. It's simply the best, funniest, shit I've even seen. And it goes on for a long time - which is why I had to go with R. Lee instead of Duvall.
The jelly donut scene really sealed it for me. -
Robert Duvall - Apocalypse Now

Robert Duvall - Apocalypse NowWasn't R Emery a REAL Marine?
I agree that part of the movie is must see every time.
Can't remember when I last watched the Vietnam part -
Robert Duvall - Apocalypse Now
He was a drill Sgt according to my bro in law, who secretly wishes he could've married R Lee.RaceBannon said:Wasn't R Emery a REAL Marine?

If memory serves, he was initially a technical advisor for FMJ, and Kubrick put him into the role because he was so authentic while training the actors. Was also outstanding (and similarly red-assed) in The Boys From Company C, which is where I first saw him.RaceBannon said:Wasn't R Emery a REAL Marine?

He was a Vietnam vet and a afterwards a Drill Instructor. As was stated, he was hired as the technical advisor and replaced the actor because he had ‘it’ and the actor didn’t.RaceBannon said:Wasn't R Emery a REAL Marine?
