I think you need to reread my post, Chuckoslovakia. It was pretty matter of fact. Recruiting isn't going well, despite some high-ceiling dudes I like, I theorized a couple logical reasons for why Jimmy is failing (beyond having some shitty recruiters), I explained why I'm still in wait-and-see mode until this season has started/is over, I expect to have a very good team this season, I explained why we BETTER have a very good team this season, and if we don't we could very well be fucked. It's not an unreasonable theory to say that this season is what will cause us to sink or swim. Pompoms? I hope we win, yes. Go team go. Beat the opponent soundly. I'm not seeing what you're going on about. I recommend stepping away from the keyboard. Maybe go fly fishing.chuck said:

Was I not just sharing my viewpoint like anyone else? "Give Jimmy a chance to prove himself on the field" = thought police? What else was there? Did this hit a nerve because I'm right? Here's a tip...we, us message board slobs, don't need to give him more of a chance as you demand. We don't make the decisions. We post thoughts on a fucking forum and have all the leeway in the world to be wrong. Why? Because it doesn't fucking matter. Everyone realizes that except you and purpedawgfan.
Fuck off, Chuckles.

1. When there is a gap of more than 10 spots in the 247 talent composite the more talented team wins something like ~80-85% of the time. I can’t find the stat and I’m afraid I’ll have to do it myself, but better.
1b. Kind of obvious but Wisconsin, USC, Texas, etc do their best to drive the percentage down.
2. 2016 Washington was ranked 24th in the composite, out of their 14 games these were the teams ranked higher:
Oregon 21, Stanford 17, USC 2, Alabama 1.
Chalk says 10-4 but they went +2 for 12-2, losing to the two teams 10+ spots higher.
Breakdown
2016 Stanford: 1 5-star, 27 4-stars
2016 Oregon: 1 5-star, 23 4-stars
2016 Washington: 21 4-stars
2000-2021 Boise State:
Note: Oregon played 17 blue chips and UW 16 in their 70-21 thrashing by my count. 8/22 Oregon starters were freshmen or redshirt freshmen. Of those 17 blue chips: 10 were WRs, RBs, or TEs. UW had double the blue chips on DL and OL.
3. Recruiting rankings have become a lot more accurate since 247 joined the business and began producing the composite. Why? Hudl, Twitter, more scouting employees, 7 on 7, camps, whatever - most likely better communication and more resources.
4. Connected to the above, team recruiting is becoming more predictive of success. Besides 2014 Oregon name the lowest recruiting team to win a playoff game out of the 21 that have been played...
5. If your initial thought is that number four isn’t relevant or something you need to concern yourself with... you’re right, you’re a Pac-12 fan and I have to remind myself I am as well. But false hope/delusion, along with corruption, tradition, and illiteracy are the cornerstones of college football. -

Unless the intention is to mislead and bamboozle why does the list start at 5 but skip 8 and 9? Is it because 2, 3, 4, and 8 made the playoffs while 1 and 9 won the Peach and Cotton Bowls? I think 7th Florida can be excused for making the Cotton Bowl and their losses to 2, 6, 9, and 11.
In summary: With the exception of #5 Texas and #6 LSU all the teams 1-12 either went to the playoff, NY6 Bowl, or the conference championship game. All the five big conference champions came from the top-12.
#5 Texas fired their coach for underachieving.
#6 LSU had opt outs from their top players, satiated after winning the national championship the year prior.
#14 and #15 also fired their coaches.
Coaches of teams in the top-15 had this option:
* Get to playoffs, conference championship game, or an NY6 bowl. Ten achieved this.
* Be the defending national champion. One achieved this.
* Get fired. Three achieved this.
* Be James Franklin. One achieved this.
How about a non Covid season, like 2019? Here are the final AP poll rankings and their team talent rank.
1. LSU: 5
2. Clemson: 9
3. Ohio State: 2
4. Georgia: 3
5. Oregon: 17
6. Florida: 15
7. Oklahoma: 9
8. Alabama: 1
9. Penn State: 11
10. Minnesota: 42
Only two out of the top ten weren’t top-15 in talent. One was 17th and had a QB who would break the rookie passing records. The other was an impressive 42nd, but they also had one win against a conference opponent with a winning record. PJ Fleck has his Row the Boat schtick, and he’s shown he’s capable of getting into the top ten with Jimmy Lake type recruits. He’d be a good fit.

"He steps into a great position and the 1 thing he has done well is keep that initial class together that Pete bailed on. His recruiting has been subpar and that was supposed to be a strong point."
Like I said, youre a recrooting doog. It's okay to admit it, there are a lot of your ilk.
You want a new shiny Sark like coach to bring the sizzle and the 4 stars.
Non recrooting doogFS posters understand that winning the fucking games is all that matters at the end of the day. Could care less if it was a roster full of 5 stars or a bunch of 2 star walkons.
Not only that, they understand that as momentum builds within a program, recruiting improves. Iowa State is signing 4 stars now because their coach won the fucking games.
I know this is difficult to grasp. I really do. You like the excitement of teenage drama and you oogle over pictures of 17 year olds.
UW is a program where the momentum stalled in 2019, then a global pandemic hit. Many people, including recruits, are in wait and see mode in regards to the program. Myself included.
A big 2021 season, beating Michigan, winning the conference, will spell better recruiting moving forward.
A runner up, 9-3 type season may or may not be cause for concern.
Anything less than that and fire Jimmy.
Fucking idiot. Hth.
Losing Ebuka and JTT is bad. We need to get the elite guys that are right there. I don’t really give a shit about the rest of the guys.
The results worsened as the recruiting inched closer to the top 10.
Its better to have higher ranked recruits than the alternative. But you can win, especially in the Pac 12, with borderline top 25 talent.
Even against Bama, I will die believing scheme was the biggest issues
That would be concerning anytime.
It's especially an issue given the high level of in state talent of the classes in question.
UW didnt have the same talent Penn State or Ohio State did.
But the talent didnt lose them those games. The team starting sluggish, due mostly to the offensive scheme, was the problem
When UW finally woke up and the playcalling got dialed in, combined with desperation, made the final scores within one possession
Talent matters, but you dont have to out talent those teams to win. We were recruiting at the fabled 40% blue chip rate and went fucking 8-5, right @RaceBannon
If Jimmy wins he will be legitimized and the recruiting will greatly improve. Not worried about it.
If he loses, he gets fired and this is moot.
The amount of good players we got from the early Pete classes was a miracle, it's not something that's easy to replicate. 3*s aren't magically coached up better than 4*s. Just because we built a great team in 2016 with 3*s does not mean it's likely to happen again! I don't know why this is so hard to understand.
My point is that coaching is much more important than whether starters are 3 stars or 4 stars.
3 stars get coached up all the time to be better than the 4 stars they are competing with, either on their own team for a roster spot or on the other team on Fall Saturdays
I dont know why this is so hard to understand
And we? are still paying for it 30 years later
Its a culture and the culture is the greatest setting and some winning but not too much and leave the cash at home when recruiting
That lesson was ignored 20 years ago and we are still paying for that too
I don't accept that the mildly competent soft fucking loser Petersen is the best we could hope for here. Nick Urban Day Switzer is the best we could hope for
Why we don't is where your angst should be directed
You guys are the definition of delusional old timer message board fans. Which is great, it's funny, but its the truth. Im a fan of the truth and tend to live in reality here in my advanced age of nearly 30.
This fucking program has done nothing except for a flash in the pan Rose Bowl trophy in 30 years, and a playoff participant trophy.
Pac 12 titles are pretty meh with how the conference has performed...but lets stretch reality a bit and say that UW has 4 conference titles in 30 years.
That is the program youre a fan of. This isnt Alabama or Ohio State. This is a B tier program that will probably remain a B tier program. Hell, it nosedived to a D tier program for 10 years!
So yeah, a second year head coach gets to stick around after a 9-3 season. I wouldn't celebrate it, but Id be willing to give him year 3 to win the conference or LEAVE

I was just pointing out elite recruiting is far from a guarantee for wins. Most of the top 25 at the end of the year were teams not anywhere near the top in team (high-school) talent. I know that (HS) talent matters but these facts are irrefutable.
I would agree that to be the in the top 10 you need to be in the top 25 in talent though. Something like that. -
