Defensive Scheme

"4-2-5 defensive scheme in 2020 signaled the introduction of the Husky position group at Fresno State. (Julius) Brown led the transition of four individuals into a unique position whose responsibilities include those of a strong-side linebacker and a safety – a hybrid position."
Although I'm lukewarm on Inge being the DC, it'd be nice to get Dom Hampton and Jacobe Covington on the field and spell the end of Jack Sirmon's time in the program.

Covington was playing corner this year.

Its college football, they dont need to learn complex cover 1 cross rat man under hybrid zone schemes.
75% is use the scheme that gets the best players you have on the field
25% is use the scheme that counters what the offense is trying to do -
We need a head coach that helps his DC adapt and adjust as the game swings back and forth between 5 wides throwing it all over and run it up your ass in the I formation
Obviously the ideal is a defensive line of future NFL stars so the other 7 guys can take the rest of the field. That's the other DAWGS this year.
We? had a really good D line during the Petersen Dynasty -
I pray whoever our DC(s) is/are that they teach proper ILB play. The last three years with Wellington, Manure, and Sirmon have made our maddening two-gap scheme and the absence of adjustments look like we’re the dumbest, most stubborn myopic staff in America, not to mention shitty developers of LBs or at least don’t know who to play.

The 4-2-5 is literally what we’ve ran for the last 8 years, nothing different.
The Husky position is another way of saying Nickel, or Star if you’re a Rams fan.
The 4-2-5 relies heavily on interior pass rush and versatile DB play, we did not have a nickel who could play the run game (bookie)
And the interior pass rush was non-existent, it’s hard for the DEs to sack a QB AND keep contain.

Basically what we’ve been playing but with four down linemen instead of two or three.theLSkid said:The 4-2-5 is literally what we’ve ran for the last 8 years, nothing different.

Should be far more effective against the run. -

Why? Produced nothing but great defenses when he was here. Was the first to recognize Jimmy as the incompetent boob he was, and this year's broken D under Bob just further solidified how integral Kwat was to our defensive success.backthepack said:

I don't want him back since we need to completely cleanse ourselves of all things Pete and Jimmy, and I of course enjoyed seeing him and Sark fail epically in Texas. But I'll always love him for the badass Ds he gave us during his tenure here. -

Wouldn't the whole point of hiring Donte Williams as co-DC would be to hire someone like Kwat who is a good defensive mind but not a recruiter? I want to move on from the Petersen tree so I hope we can get someone else but I would not lose sleep if Kwat was hired back here. He won't be so that point is moot but still.backthepack said:

On first read I pictured Sark running his tongue over Gary's back hair, liver spots and atypical moles. It made me chuckle. On second read I got the joke. It takes a minute.GrundleStiltzkin said:

I hate kwat because his scheme is limp dick football. Texas was a huge disaster on defense this year. It worked before coaches figured it out. It’s like how lambo stayed with the 46 defense way too long.CuntWaffle said:

We played a 4-2-5 but with a regular nickel, not a hybrid safety/lb big nickel. The DL alignment and gap responsibilities will also be different.theLSkid said:The 4-2-5 is literally what we’ve ran for the last 8 years, nothing different.

We put way too much on our DTs in the run game, and on our DBs in the pass game. Worked well when we had elite corners and elite DTs. This year we only had elite corners.
Better to have a scheme where you find guys who can fill a role, rather than require certain positions to be good at everything. -
At Texas, the head coach is the issue.AtomicDawg said:

By 2019 it wasn't. This year it was pathetic at Texas
I know Lake took over but Kwat agreed to let him have the title and 81 percent here thought it was great
-
He was fine then. 91 was a great defense for lambo. 98 wasn’t. The scheme is easy to beat if you throw underneath and run the ball patiently. And kwat and jimmy still commit to deep safeties in obvious run situations. Or play nickel personnel when 3rd and short.whatshouldicareabout said:

Things change. Things stay the same. Quit living in the past.

As the first Jimmy Lake hatter here, I wouldn't really have a problem bringing Kwat back.
Its a little bit lazy and a bit safe but there are 100s worse DCs DeBoner could pick and it would allow Deboner to simplify his job as Offense and recruiting.
