Jake Haener

I'm intrigued by Haener coming back since he's comfortable and proven in this system. Hell he was even in the Heisman conversation for a bit this season. I do think we need to hit the portal regardless to build up depth & in case Sam still isn't ready. But like Sonics mentioned, you better be fucking careful that you don't risk the future for a 1 year rebuilding year. If ceiling is 7-8 wins, I'd rather take lumps with Sam same way we did with Browning as a Freshmen.
-
I love Sonics but his take here is off. Haener is way better than Huard right now and we take him in a heartbeat.
Sonics also wasn’t a fan of DeBoner initially but has since come around. The same will happen with Haener and he’ll warm up to it.
If Sam portals because he had to sit out one year learning the system then good riddance -

Why not? The defense shouldn't be any worse than what we saw and the offense should take a huge step forward, especially with a competent QB. Give Sam a year to get actual coaching and be ready to kill it as a junior.sonics1993 said:It's not like we are contending next year, so why not start building with Sam? And worst case, what if Sam leaves?
I'm all for taking Haener.
10 is optimistic but a possibility. -
i like how people are complaining about our dicks not being big enough but then balking at actually trying to win games next year

Its going to be hilarious when Haener transfer to UW and sucks, Morris transfers to Fresno State and is incredible under Tedford, and Huard transfers to SDSU and sits for the rest of his career.

UW has a ton of soft players who think they are stars. If some transfer, good. Culture change.LongDukDong said:I love Sonics but his take here is off. Haener is way better than Huard right now and we take him in a heartbeat.

Get with the times old man -
Huard needs to get the fuck out if he won't compete!!!!!!!
He does. Haener already did
Next man up -
I don’t see how this is a bad thing. Let Haener come back for a year, Sam has real time to learn the offense, and then he has 3 years as presumably the starter. He can also compete for the job with Haener next year. If Sam is scared of competing with Haener he isn’t an NFL quality QB let’s be real. What Power 5 team is willing to let Huard portal in and start him on the quality of his 4 int resume. None.
-
I see that the only person that agrees with me is @RaceBannon . Therefore I take back anything I said, and I would love Haener back. Also, fuck you, old man!

We do whatever gets Haener's mom back on campus.

This is reminding me of the time DDY was pitching for "this and this recruit" to start over BBK even though BBK was lighting it up.RoadDawg55 said:
It’s hard to fathom how you can talk such a big game about recruiting and the program needing to do what is necessary to win yet you care about Sam Huard and his feelings.sonics1993 said:

If Jake Haener can't win the Mountain West, how in the world do you expect him to win the Pac-12? The whole point of hiring him was that he can develop talent. Well then develop, Sam, that's why you were brought here.CuntWaffle said:
Haener would have 1 year, he wouldn’t be coming over with 3 years of eligibility left. I doubt Huard leaves because of that and if he does well fuck him then.sonics1993 said:It's not like we are contending next year, so why not start building with Sam? And worst case, what if Sam leaves?
Not contending? So we should just throw the season away and not try to get a better draft pick? I’m confused.
Also the last 2 classes while below standards combined basically equate to one class in size … the COVID eligibility rules are going to make things interesting for the next few years -
What really be fucking hilarious is if he transferred back and Huard beat him out this time instead of Eason.BleachedAnusDawg said:

I would also argue having Haener come back, win 8-10 games and really start positive momentum around the program and recruiting is better for the program long term than struggling through a 5 win season trying to develop Sam. If he is better he can compete for it.

I worked for a great family company for years. The one rule was if you go you aren't coming back. Enforced like the mafia. Had folks begging to come back
Only one person ever let there and came back. Me

Players get betterRoadDawg55 said:
I actually do think he’s a better college QB than Eason. Again, Huard threw 4 picks and couldn’t beat out Dylan fucking Morris.sonics1993 said:
Jake Haener couldn't beat out Jake Browning and Jacob Eason.CuntWaffle said:
As far as a culture change goes I want players to think they have to come in and compete, not just given the red carpet treatment coming out of high school because of their recruiting ranking. It’s 2021 and I get that the QB position is different especially with the portal and if Sam had played this year and looked pretty good I could see your argument a bit better. But he wasn’t able to beat out Morris who likes to regularly throw into triple coverage and looked TERRIBLE in his first start. Yes the team gave up and played a part but he didn’t do anything well that game, at all. He shouldn’t automatically be handed the starting job if competition is brought in.sonics1993 said:

Not contending? So we should just throw the season away and not try to get a better draft pick? I’m confused.
And again it’s one season IF it happens and if Huard isn’t willing to sit and learn for one more season behind a QB who has had success in this current offense then that says a lot about him and his mentality.
Sam has gotten a raw deal development wise with a COVID year plus the malpractice of a staff he played for this year
The book hasn’t even started to be written about his future as a college football player -
Haener this year threw for 753 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT against Oregon and UCLA
Huard against WSU, arguably worse team than both Oregon and UCLA, threw for 190 yards, 1 TD, and 4 INTS.
I am definitely not giving up on Huard but I also want the best players we can get to play and if that is Haener for a year so be it... especially in a familiar offense for him and one that isn't for Sam. -
I know. This needs to stop.RaceBannon said:
