Why does this staff think Sean McGrew is good?

One of these is not like the other.
How can a coaching staff think a 5'7 180 lb RB w. no vision or ability to shed a tackle is the ideal option to hand the ball off to on 1st and 2nd down? Kamari Pleasant and Cam Davis were the reason the offense turned it around in the 2nd half. They hit holes hard and the shed tackles - it's really an easy observation.
This is what McGrew looks like every time he gets tackled:

Cam Davis seems to be out of the doghouse now after his fumble deep in his own territory against Oregon State cost the team big.
-
They've all sucked but McGrew actually has good vision. Just no ability to break a tackle.
Davis still looks slow. Pleasant might be best.
Lovin' this stable. -
McGrew was our only offense against OSU and he had 104 yards and 2 TDs. Guess it just depends on the night
The offense has no rhyme or reason; it's schizophrenic and the team can't get into a groove because the preparation and play-calling is so bad. -

There's a huge difference between that play and handing the ball off to him on a dive expecting him to make a play. He can't run the ball in a traditional set - so stop giving it to him. -
KP is hitting the hole hard and has some wiggle.
-
He's small and a third down type back. I don't think anyone in their right mind saw him as a workhorse you could get 25 carries and 130 yards out of.

McGrew looked good one game this season. Kamari looked hood last game. Cam Davis looked ok this game.
Each game there's a new guy that looks like a B- grade running back instead of an F. Without fail, the next game he's back to being an F -
He is literally the only back who can extend a play by breaking tackles or staying on his feet under duress.NeGgaPlEaSe said:KP is hitting the hole hard and has some wiggle.

Somehow Pleasant and his routine 5-8 yard runs weren't pleasing the staff last night. McGrew running unto a wall and being thrown backward and Davis tiptoeing in fear of another fumble seemed more effective to them in the second half.

Smart coaching always takes the smallest RB and has him dive up the middle - that is what I call good coaching - McGrew up the middle for 1.5 yds.
Always do that when they have 8 in the box on Defense -
McGrew is fine but we need more Pleasant carries
Davis looked okay but lost us a game already by fumbling -
Jimmy’s setting up the fake 32 dive and pitch to walk on H back on the weak side… he’s been saving for the Apple cupLebamDawg said:Smart coaching always takes the smallest RB and has him dive up the middle - that is what I call good coaching - McGrew up the middle for 1.5 yds.

McGrew should get 8 to 10 carries outside the tackles, a few screen passes. He's good in that role.

Probably 75% of McGrew's Carrie's are the JonhDon special right up the gut. The line can't create a hole if their life depended on it

He was our best RB last year. He’s had some good games. Let’s not pretend like our other RB’s are studs that he’s keeping off the field. This was Cam Davis’ only decent game of his entire career.BroadcastingDawg said:

There was a run late where we blocked it pretty close to perfectly and Davis showed no vision at all. It should have been a 10+ yard run and somehow he got maybe two yards.

To give McGrew the best chance for success, he needs to be put in spaceBeerThirty said:Probably 75% of McGrew's Carrie's are the JonhDon special right up the gut. The line can't create a hole if their life depended on it

lol hes a white running back. And not a big ass bruising one.

The staff is dumb
-
Do they think he is good? He didn’t play at the beginning of the year at all. The problem is all the running backs suck.

McGrew is pretty good. He's slamming the ball in there between the guards all game and getting thrown around like a rag doll, then getting up and doing it again. He's not as good as Pleasant at turning those two yard gains into six yard gains, but he does quite a bit with what he has to work with.
