Jimmy's keeping Donovan

It matters because the implication is "no one could have seen this coming" which lets Jen off the hook and I disagree massively with that. I won't lie and say I thought Jimmy would be this bad (I thought he'd at least recruit decently) but I hated the hire at the time and feel my reasoning was solid. It's fine if a bunch of homer message bored poasters look past all that because they're excited about a change. It's not fine if the person in charge of the AD uses that same blind homer reasoning.gmo said:Why does it matter if people were on board with the Jimmy hire when it happened?
After plenty of evidence he's very clearly a disaster really on all fronts.
Jen fucked this up. Royally. -

I still support Jimmy but I'm a fan
I thought continuity was good but I'm a fan
Jen is the AD. She made the call. She was wrong
Its her job and she needs to pay with it
-
I hear that, 100%. Yeah I never thought he would be this bad, I like I think many on here were hoping the same on the recruiting front.dnc said:

Your point is taken in that context. I was asking the question hoping that it wasn't a finger pointing exercise of division.
Basketball and football are both disasters by any measure. That in and of itself always should mean you need a new AD at any college worth a shit at all. (I guess that last part is up for debate). -
The counter to that is, did OU and tOSU conduct national searches prior to promoting Riley and Day? I could probably find out but I recall it was a pretty swift change at both schools. The difference obviously is those guys were OCs and I did have some slight concern that promoting a defensive minded coach in today's CFB would be a mistake. However, I had no idea Jimmy's vision for an effective offense would be this shit show we have right now.dnc said:

The biggest issue with this is those guys were longer tenured and more successful as coordinators than Lake was, and they didn’t have the architect of their system on staff holding their hands.insinceredawg said:

Jimmy was only a coordinator for two seasons, one was mediocre and it was the more recent one.
He was not in Riley/Days class as a coordinator. -
Good points. I'm not defending Cohen at all and being in her position she should have performed the due diligence. From a fan's perspective it made a ton of sense on paper. Dig a little deeper though and you'll see Lake's experience in coaching prior to hitching his wagon to CP was dubious at best. He was the DBs coach for some god awful teams including the 1-10 2004 Gilby UW team and the 0-16 2008 Detroit Lions team.dnc said:

It’s that I guarantee she didn’t ever consider that Pete would step down or leave like he did (which in his position is 81% chicken shit to give really no notice just gone) so therefore she didn’t have a list made up of what her options were.
If she did and Jimmy was the top of the list that’s an indictment on her hiring decisions that we already know sucks ass
If she did and all her top options turned her down and Jimmy was left then so be it
But I think we know that the reality is that she was blindsided and made a rushed panicked hire in the name of continuity -
Which is why I hate Pete too.Tequilla said:

Not changing coaches is going to have them recruiting their asses off just to keep talent on the roster and field 85. It’s about to get real.
Teams see our roster and will gladly cherry-pick the younger talent. -
I never in a million years thought Lake would be this bad, this outright stupid. I knew Ty was an over pretentious egomaniac from the get go. At least Ty wore it like a boy scout badge.
Jimmy still thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. What he doesn't get is that everybody in the room is eating chocolate ice cream and he's eating shit, acting so smart -

Good point and I thought he was a good OC hire away from having a good staff. But then:
1. He hires the RB coach of the shitty Jags to be his OC
2. The 2021 class closed with a wimper
3. Kwat leaves and he was the brains behind the D plus also helped Malloe out with the DL.
4. He promotes Bobby Gregory to DC rather than find a better DC who can also recruit.
5. Lake hires internally to promote a grad assistant to coach the DL.
6. Rumors circulate that Kwat couldn't stand Jimmy Lake and hated working for him.
7. The 2021 class gets off to a weak start and 4 players de-commit, with Jon Wilner pointing out the trouble brewing in August of 2021.
8. Lake loses to Montana.
9. Lake loses to Oregon State a month later and with many of the same deficiencies plaguing the team.
10. He stands by his shitty OC hire going into a bye week when it is blindingly obvious to everyone that JonDon's offense goes major stretches stalling, which tires out the D.
11. No up and coming coach would want to join this sinking ship should Smug Lake happen to keep his job so he'd be stuck with the same crappy coordinators who can't recruit. That's not exactly a recipe for success in competing for top West Coast recruits, including those from WA. -
Has this been legitimately reported anywhere? IIRC it was all hyper read between the lines without a lot of substance.HFNY said:
