Kid didn't sign out of high school due to grades but had 4 Pac-12 scholarships and is now up to 6'6" and 330lbs.
Was only a 2* on Scout (link below) but 247 ranked him the 37th best DT and 215th best player in the country and having offers from UW and UCLA (in 2013).

Looks to be a pretty solid pick-up, especially since he can redshirt this year and then play for 4 years.

Wow, I definitely remember his recruitment. Solid pick up. Good for him for getting his grades up and getting into UW.
-
Was he an idiot?

OP, what is your source for this news?

Roof posted an article. I don't have access, so I don't know any specifics, and the rest of the information is derived from his scout and 247 pages. -
It's great that Petersen is getting all this beef but what about those edgy WRs from Cali that got Sark to the top of the NOGAF part in the Pac-12?
It's just a little concerning he hasn't been able to reach out to these kids. -
I hope he's been working harder then ever all summer like the rest of the team.

Actually, in this case he probably is. Had to go to extra school to get into college as an athleteMikeDamone said:Was he an idiot?

You can't teach 6'6" and 330 ...
He probably has some weight to lose off the 330 ...
But take the RS, get into good shape, get down to 285-300 ... you've got yourself great size then.
From his offer list, it's fairly clear that most view him as a PAC level player.
The kind of pickup that is very low risk and high reward if true. -
Vida Guerra > Vita Vea

I just checked ESPN recruiting (I know, lol) and they thought highly of him. They had him as a 4*, the 228th best player in the country and 18th best DE, ahead of JoJo Mathis.
Rivals originally had him listed as a 4* and in their top 250 at 237 before dropping him due to academics.
So between 247, ESPN and Rivals, he's a consensus 4* and ranked between 215-237th in the country. Then again, those were all based off his potential, but he might turn out to be a real gem.
Just wait until Socha gets his hands on him!! -
Great prospect and will be a huge get if he can step in for Shelton next season.

Waiting for a source that isn't psychotic (Ruth) or despotic (LP trio).

still no news from any sane source
is this actually a thing -
Per sfgate:
"It was a light recruiting year for the Peninsula and South Bay, though the region's top player, Vita Vea, a 6-4, 280-pound defensive lineman from Milpitas, drew major attention. Grades, however, are at issue, and he won't sign Wednesday."

Good question. I figured the other sites would have reported this by now.Gladstone said:anyway

There's 2 threads on Doogman about him and one thread by Roof.
Guess we'll need to wait for Petersen's press conference or Monday's newcomer's practice to find out. -
Ektard says he has joined the team but there's a 90.81% chance that he won't be suited up to practice on Monday because he won't be cleared academically
