The debacle was agreed to by Daddy and the withdrawal had already largely occurred by the time Biden took office. Biden had no stomach for telling the American people he was going to reverse the withdrawal because he and Daddy sought the exact same result here: Americans out of Afghanistan. I don't entirely blame Biden. Americans have no stomach for staying and it could have derailed his Presidency. Gawd knows you girls wouldn't be supporting his decision to send troops back in.trublue said:I realize it’s hard for you to realize that Biden has been POTUS since January 20, 2021.
He was under no obligation to follow the agreement negotiated by the Trump Administration with the Taliban.
Remember Obama’s agreement with Iran? “Nuked” shortly after Trump took office.
Biden could have done the same thing.
Biden needs to put on his big boy pants, come out of hiding and own it.
Perhaps, you could write his speech for him.
Please provide him with some talking points, Counselor.
Neither Daddy or Joe gives a shit about the fact that we were virtually certain at all times, before and after the deal was made, that Afghanistan would fall. That it would fall almost instantaneously is the only surprise here.
I know you only care who this falls on politically. Any honest examination shows this to be a bipartisan failure. -

I was on the old Woodshed when some of the cast of characters here would shriek about some detainee or another who had returned to the battlefield after release. Yet, I haven't once seen ANYONE here remark on the fact that Daddy's deal released 5,000 Taliban fighters from custody. I agree with you that Joe looks bad on this. But I don't think it's me who's failing to call a spade a spade.
Anyway, you and I agree this mess isn't making anyone involved look good. -

$2T spent
352,000 Afghan security forces trained
2,000 Americans KIA
The failure to evacuate American diplomats and other U.S.personnel; and the 18,000 interpreters (and their families) prior to the withdrawal of U.S. troops has been an epic failure, an embarrassment and a national humiliation. The buck stops with Biden.
The Administration figured the Afghani Government would last 30-90 days, not 30-90 hours.
Failure of intelligence?

Biden needs to put on his big boy pants, come out of hiding and own it.
Perhaps, you could write his speech for him.
Please provide him with some talking points, Counselor.
Neither Daddy or Joe gives a shit about the fact that we were virtually certain at all times, before and after the deal was made, that Afghanistan would fall. That it would fall almost instantaneously is the only surprise here.
I know you only care who this falls on politically. Any honest examination shows this to be a bipartisan failure.
Suddenly, you’re listening to the “brass”. Too bad Biden didn’t.HHusky said:

So Trump adjusted the amount of troops in Afghanistan to an acceptable amount to maintain stability.HHusky said:
As I had to point out to you yesterday, Daddy had reduced our numbers to 2,500 by the time he left to pout in Florida. Neither he nor Biden have held the Taliban to anything. The Taliban noticed.Goduckies said:
Trump agreed to a conditions based withdrawal, not an out and out cut and run turboHHusky said:

Read paragraphs 3-5 . . . Then STFU.
This was Biden’s decision . . , He overruled the advice given to him by our military leadership re: the withdrawal.
But, but, but Trump.
Gawd, you’re stupid.
Are you ever right on anything?
You and Joe have a lot in common.
Joe is mismanaging this retreat and abandonment of Afghanistan.
Daddy only agreed to it.
Own it, legal beagle.
Winning another argument as usual.
what are you trying to say?
There’s no way to sugar coat Biden’s comments exactly 1 week ago versus what’s happening today … regardless of party it’s epically bad
My understanding on what Trump agreed to in the releases was a set of conditions that if violated would hold consequences …
That said, I personally think it’s bad policy for the US Government to release prisoners barring special circumstances … this probably wouldn’t qualify
People can wax or complain about Trump as a President …
Biden’s a disaster and anybody that didn’t think he would be was fooling themselves …
But does it even matter anymore? What % of the voting population actually can call it like they see it? -
I would say almost certainly a failure of intelligence. Which is its own issue that needs addressing now.trublue said:

As between us, only you are trying to ignore the bipartisan nature of this complete fail. I've got criticisms of all four administrations that presided over this thing.
When you announce four months ahead of time exactly when you're leaving you give the enemy four months to plan and prepare.RaceBannon said: -

Failure of intelligence?
James Clapper, former CIA Director under Obama, denied on CNN today that it was a failure of intelligence.
