Rebuking "trumped-up charges" against Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg on Thursday, columnist and Harvard Law School graduate Dan McLaughlin called the Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance's move "a familiar sight in banana republics."
This "stage-managed political show trial" for situations like this "rarely prosecuted" will set a bad precedent in American law and politics, he added.
"America has thus far avoided that," he wrote. "Making a precedent of this kind of case, based on aggressive readings of the law or its extension to situations rarely prosecuted, is a perilous step."
Ultimately, any political motivation in getting to former President Donald Trump might backfire and have the opposite result, he concluded.
"Vance seems to think he's Eliot Ness getting Al Capone for tax fraud by nabbing his accountant," McLaughlin wrote. "But if Weisselberg isn't going to testify that his boss did something criminal, it's Trump who will come out looking untouchable."
Vance's apparent desire to punish "political enemies" will also make Trump's "partisan 'witch hunt'" narrative stick with Americans.
"Donald Trump has long claimed that investigations of him are a partisan 'witch hunt,'" McLaughlin began. "Manhattan DA Cy Vance seems determined to make Trump's point for him by indicting the Trump Organization along with its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg."

This is exactly what I’m saying. Unless someone is telling the IRS to fuck off, this is rarely. If ever a criminal complaint. The amount and type (misclassification of personal expenses as business expenses) is normally punishable by paying the tax, a penalty and interest. Calling it a “scheme” and “Grand Larceny” is political theater.RaceBannon said:Found @HoustonHusky

The government ultimately wants the money and for the person to continue to making money and paying taxes.
I posted earlier, they guy from Jersey shore did 8 months on not paying taxes on $9 million and had years of failure to file. This is small time being made big time for political reasons. TKS thinks it’s the white collar crime of the century. -

Civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton is in the headlines again, but not for Ferguson or civil rights issues this time. A New York Times report says that the now svelte Reverend and his for-profit businesses owe a chubby $4.5 million in state and federal taxes. It isn’t only the taxman that is not being paid, according to reports. Even worthy causes like hotels, landlords, and travel agencies are getting the cold shoulder from Mr. Sharpton or from his advocacy organization, the National Action Network. -

Tax cases have been brought against New York hotel magnates before.
In 1988, real estate investor Harry Helmsley and his wife Leona were convicted of evading $1.2 million in federal taxes. They had billed Helmsley businesses for personal expenses ranging from her underwear to $3 million worth of renovations to their Connecticut estate. At its peak, their real estate empire was worth an estimated $5 billion.
During the Helmsley trial, a former housekeeper testified that she heard Leona Helmsley say: “We don’t pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes.” Helmsley denied having said it, but the comment stuck.
The indictment was brought by then-Manhattan U.S. Attorney Rudy Giuliani. Then-businessman Trump blamed Leona Helmsley — who'd been dubbed "the queen of mean" — for her husband's troubles in a letter that was obtained by the New York Post.
"Without the veil of Harry Helmsley, you would be a non-entity. You would not be able to randomly fire and abuse people in order to make yourself happy," Trump wrote of Leona Helmsley. "What has happened to the legendary Helmsley reputation is indeed sad."
Trump organization is accused of not paying taxes on $1.1 million over 15 years. So maybe $350k in tax. That’s a rounding error. Hardly something a multi billion dollar company would devise a “tax scheme” over. If they don’t thi k they owe they tax, they court can decide. Otherwise it’s political theater.
Same "rounding error" every year for 16 straight years. And it's not only federal income taxes either. -

Well if his son's business partner and his son aren't enough proof, can you explain who or what will be enough to change your blind eye mind?
