The Colts? I think just drafted a guy in the 2nd rd coming off the same injury. I think its 50/50. I would bounce without looking back.Tequilla said:
Nobody with a brain would tell ZTF to go pro after this season coming off the injury he’s had and the fact he’s got so little game film on tapeRoadDawg55 said:
I actually wouldn’t be surprised if the ZTF injury isn’t a benefit in regards to getting JT. He starts or at least gets rotational playing time outside and we need his size out there. Bowman and maybe ZTF are gone after this year. Him and Smalls (although McDonald and Brice will be real competition) take over.huskyhooligan said:I'm hearing from a very reliable source he's coming to UW. I heard the waiting thing is to help UW get all the hype about the signing, months after people stopped caring and moved onto the upcoming season.
The longer it goes, the better for us. He seems to be having a hard time committing to moving away. He’s going to UW or Ohio State. He won’t go to Oregon.

Also had substantially more film than ZTFKrunkJuice said:

ZTF has so little film out there at this point -
Lol. That guy had 29 starts. Compared to ZTF's four. He ain't leaving.KrunkJuice said:

I have severe doubts JTT is factoring injuries to current DEs at schools and Ryan Bowman at all into his situation.RoadDawg55 said:

If he shows he’s healthy by January, why wouldn’t he go pro? If he shows he’s healthy again, go get paid. Guys that get injured still go pro all the time. Weird and somewhat archaic take by you, but okay. Returning and risking injury is always the smarter move. It worked out well for Trey Adams.Tequilla said:

Probably. Just saying there is a selling point about lots of playing time available. JT probably thinks he will start right away anywhere he goes (most recruits are deluded and believe that), but at UW he is pretty much guaranteed playing time at Buck/Sam (his preference) and not DT.WoolleyDoog said:

If JTT comes to UW he's a first-rounder. Period. End of story.
Our program's track record developing talent is proven.
Stay home, play immediately, get drafted in the first round 3 years from now. -

ZTF has SOME film out there ... but he’s never even proven that he can perform at a high level over a full season.
Moreover, ZTF hasn’t shown that he can stand up against the run game and be a 3 down player at this point ... the Stanford film isn’t going to be a helper at the moment
So yes, I agree with you that he would get drafted if he immediately left. My guess is best case a Day 2 pick and probably late 2nd at best.
In contrast, stay in school, put up a well rounded dominate season, and you’re looking at a Top 10-15 pick if he puts up the per game production he did in 2020.
I’m all for guys going pro when they’ve reached a point where the rewards for staying don’t measure up. But the difference between a 3rd rounder (or later) and a 1st rounder is material -
What is it with all the bad analogies in this thread? Trey had, what, 20+ starts when he suffered his injury? Again, ZTF has four. That's the entire point here - he has way too little film.RoadDawg55 said:

One season is enough. One half of a season of high level play and a million dollar body was enough for Tryon.GreenRiverGatorz said:

Is it a safe assumption that ZTF isn't going to play significant time thus year? I'm pretty sure you guys are right. Even an amazing recovery would have him trying to rehab into game shape, probably around mid-late season at best. He'll definitely needs another full season. -
Also, even if he comes back this year he’s not going to be anywhere near what he was last year, 8 months out from this surgery. More like a full year to 15 months to regain his athleticism. He pretty much has to come back.chuck said:

Any of you see Dylan Moses from Alabama went undrafted? How did returning to Bama work out for him? I think he at least had an insurance policy. But coming back is why he went undrafted. I doubt he would have after last year with the torn ACL. Someone would have taken a chance in the middle rounds. Hypothetical but still.
ZTF won’t be a first round pick ever after tearing his Achilles. Very likely too scary of injury. Take all the screenshots you need.
Yes, he has limited film and other examples have many more starts. If he comes back and gets hurt again, his career is basically over. One contract in the NFL > being an undrafted free agent with very little to no guaranteed money.
If he’s healthy by the end of next year and can test at the combine, he should go. This is a bad injury. -
If he comes back healthy, racks up sacks and shows progress against the run, he'll do well. Jalen Phillips was a concussion casualty and out of football until he wasn't.RoadDawg55 said:Any of you see Dylan Moses from Alabama went undrafted? How did returning to Bama work out for him? ZTF may not be a first rounder but he's not Dylan Moses who is very overrated. He was just ok and had lot of talent in front of and behind him. -
If he wanted to hedge his bets, then sure, he could do that. But I don't think that's the kind of mindset he has. He wouldn't get picked before the fifth round if he left in '22, and in all likelihood would be an UDFA. Something tells me he'll try to play himself into the first round instead.RoadDawg55 said:Any of you see Dylan Moses from Alabama went undrafted? How did returning to Bama work out for him? Jalen Phillips was a first round pick despite being on a team that gave up 500+ yards rushing to North Carolina. Stopping the run is a bonus. Pass rushers are crucial at any level, but especially in the NFL.Baseman said:

Point is, if ZTF plays a couple games (or even if he doesn’t), shows he’s healthy, a team is picking a pass rusher like him fairly early provided he can run at the combine and is healthy after the Achilles tear.
Thinking he will come back next year, play great, nobody like Trice, Smalls, and possibly JT will be taking snaps from him is pretty doogish. Coming back is a bigger risk than being a mid round pick. -
Phillips IMO would be a greater injury risk than ZTF long term

Achilles obviously are no joke as well and recovery can be fickle. That said given ZTF’s age I think the evidence suggests that you’re able to return closer to pre injury than if it happens later in one’s career. The key in the rehab will not be going too fast that you run the risk of injuring other areas by over compensating -
Surprised that nobody is using Sidney Jones as an example. He had a lot of good film, popped his Achilles, and went in the 2nd round. Bust in the NFL, but that's not the debate here.
ZTF does not have any significant body of work, but he does play at a position of demand. I think he could go in round 4 of next year's draft. If he's desperate to get some money now he can get 4 years at around $750k per, but I don't know how much of that is actually guaranteed. He'd be smart to come back. If he had a 7-8 sack season in 2022 people would say he's rebounded well, getting his legs under him, and has a higher ceiling. Probably would go round 2. It's too bad he got hurt because he had the potential to be a top-10 pick next year. -
Good rule of thumb for any injury ... take whatever the recovery time to get back and double it for when you’re where you were prior to the injury
Sidney obviously didn’t have a great career in Philly but I think it’s also fair to point out that entire position has struggled there
He got some decent run last year in Jacksonville and signed a new deal there this off-season
Sometimes the difference in bust and good career is the fit with team/scheme -
Jones isn't a bust. He just never got his feet under him in Philly. He had a good season last year.. It's important to note that he was coming off an awesome season, good combine, and good pro day when he got hurt. There were zero questions about him aside from the injury and he hadn't been sitting out like ZTF will have been.BleachedAnusDawg said:Surprised that nobody is using Sidney Jones as an example. ZTF has questions beyond the injury issue.. He is bad at edge containment and only has four games under his belt as a starter. His impressive four game run might not prove the kind of consistency and durability the NFL wants to see. -
Yeah, that was basically my point and comparing why Jones still went Round 2 even after the injury whereas ZTF would not go that high right now.chuck said:
