I've told this story too many times but so what. Our son came home with 50% on a math test and a B. I went down to see the teacher and she said he tried hard.SFGbob said:

I had pretty much the exact same experience with my oldest. He wasn't much of a student and kind of class clown/personable con-man. He liked going to school, because he liked the attention and he had a captive audience where he could perform his "act." That was enough for some of his teachers to give him a passing grade and move him along. To my shock, he is now actually doing well in CC down by you.RaceBannon said:

This is how a lot of SJW teachers think.
Keep the advanced kids down. They can go help the disadvantaged kids instead of going on to Calc. 2. It's all Trump and institutional racism's fault. Watch for grades to start going away. -

I had the same teacher for 4th and 5th grade ... his solution was to drop an advanced book at my desk and tell me that by and large I was on independent study during the main lesson aspect and he’d come work with me while the rest worked on their problem sets ... I thrived
Midway through 6th grade I switched school districts and went from middle school back to elementary school ... back at elementary school it was pretty obvious that the teacher didn’t know math and I effectively taught the class
That’s a long winded way of saying that you bring up an excellent point in that not only are we dumbing down the kids, but we’re reducing the requirement for excellence from our teachers.

Bill was demoted from the high math class in 2nd grade. Then I got like 97s in the ghetto average class without trying hard but by middle school it was clear I was in the average range. It's okay. I accept it. I'll never be an engineer.Tequilla said:

Back then, or even ten years ago we accepted people are either good at math, average, or suck st it and placed them a accordingly. Now younger Gen X and Millennials who were given trophies for nothing and hate successful types throw in their woke nonsense into verifiable facts. Lifting people who struggle is good. Stagnating the ones with 134 IQs is irresponsible and wrong. -
