If Hop stays, couple big men in the transfer portal they could look at.

I want hop to succeed. I have met him and he seems genuine and upbeat.BroadcastingDawg said:
Washington has at least a little bit of a name... there's lots of current players in the NBA and they've had some decent success as a program over the last couple decades.Prestonluv said:About the only thing we have to offer right now is playing time.
Unfortunately there are other more high profile programs that can offer this as well. Add to the fact that our coach is a lame duck one and I dont think we will land the necessary recruits to get back on track.
Hop is gone next year but should be gone now.
I hope I'm wrong.
I have no idea if these transfers have any interest in UW... but I know we can't roll into next year w. Sorn and Roberts... any transfer PF with some decent ability should know that if they come here they'll get minutes and play for a Power Conference school w. some pedigree. And that's why most players transfer, they're seeking a little more attention or an increase in minutes.
But he made some really big mistakes behind closed doors last year and he is paying the piper with recruiting
I dont think he can recover. -
I met him too. Bro and I stopped him at the Pac 12 Tournament after the Dawgs had played... super personable... took an interest in who we were... extremely energetic.Prestonluv said:

It will always be a "what if?" Quade hadn't bombed in the classroom and if Jaden wasn't such a mental midget. Def set the program back and wasn't good optics... also graduating 2 1-and-done players to the NBA and not having success with them stunted the growth a couple guys who sat and set recruiting back. -
Arguing that the one recruit Hop landed over the last two cycles means anything other than nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitas 32 times in a row is ridiculous.BroadcastingDawg said:

These guys want PT and a chance to go to the next level.
If you're a big, the first place you're going is Gonzaga.
Hell, not even sure UW would be third in the State of Washington after watching the two bigs at WSU develop this year.
So I’m not really sure recruits buy your narrative... and It’s not like I’m presenting these transfers as NBA-level ability talent... they’re solid, not special, but better than what we have.
Gonzaga is one of the finalists for the Gatorade National Player of the Year in 7'1" Chet Holgren.
You realize why Gonzaga might be a little higher interest for bigs than UW?
And Jackson and Abogidi are so far ahead of Grant, it's not even close.
But getting a McDonald's All American Power Forward is a far cry from whatever the hell it is you're saying.
And Chet Holmgren has a ton of talent, but he's also a twig. I'll be surprised if he gets much playing time w. the Bulldogs until he puts on a good 30 lbs.
We can all agree he’s a nice guy. Great. He has failed at nearly every facet of his current job. -
Ah right. Hop shouldn't have recruited him. Big mistake to get a McDonald's All American.FremontTroll said:

Just cause you're the no. 1 recruit doesn't mean you don't need serious development. Chet's body needs serious work.
Nerlens Noel and Skal Labissiere say hello.
He’s over 7’, is skilled, and plays hard. He’s an impact player no matter where he goes. He’s a lot more ready to make an impact than Jackson Grant. -
This is weird take. Grant actually does bleed purple & gold - thank god, because otherwise he wouldn’t be coming to UW. To credit this as some recruiting win for Hop is bizarre.BroadcastingDawg said:

And yes, after arguably two of the worst seasons in program history, back fo back, spare folks if we are not optimistic about Hop & Jen.
And for me, Hop is what he is. Needs to be fired, of course. But Jen owns this. She hired hop, let then her ego get the best of her after two good years and signed a ridiculous contract.
Very much a rookie AD move. And like I said, a function of her thinking she doesn’t make mistakes.
That resulted in a first time head coach getting an insane buyout, one not justified by on the court accomplishments or threat of him leaving, that effectively makes it impossible to fire him after he tanks the program. Great work. -

Never once have I compared Holmgren to Jackson Grant.
What I said was Holmgren isn't likely to play a ton of minutes for Gonzaga until he adds a lot of weight. The kid is one bad landing away from breaking a leg every time he jumps.

You wouldn't have thought it was a rookie mistake at the time so quit pretending in hindsight that Hop looked anything but a successful hire and someone the Huskies should have committed to long term.doogville said:

As for Jackson Grant, discrediting Hop is a weird take considering the kid is fucking going to UW. You don't think there was a decision process the kid went through and Hop wasn't a part of landing him? I don't care if he bleeds Purple and Gold... you still gotta convince the kid to come and play basketball for you.

I didn’t have an issue extending Hop. It seemed fine at the time. I have an issue with the buyout terms. Which were ludicrous then & ludicrous now. If you are the AD, your job is not to read your news clips and think you are infallible and that every coach you hire is going to be awesome and be here forever and so fuck it, give them a gold-plated contract because why not?BroadcastingDawg said:

A $12M+ buyout for mike Hopkins? That is BONKERS. Dude had won one (1) tournament game in his career. Her job is to negotiate contracts, and she got hosed. Which means she’s effectively not even in control of the bball program anymore - she couldn’t fire hop even if she wanted to. Great job, Jen!
As for grant, yes, you could have Amazon Alexa coaching the program & he would commit. He loves UW and has been a UW fan his entire life. -
He was the P12 Coach of the year 2x years in a row... won the conference in his 2nd season largely w. a team of misfits who made up a team that went 9-22 w. Markelle f'n Fultz on it a season before he got there. He lost to the eventual National Champions in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament... You're underselling what he did in those 1st 2 years to deserve an nice extension w. guarantees. Things can go poorly quickly, but if the last 2 Dawg years had gone great not a single soul would be talking about them... it's part of the risks you take with contracts... and I'm not convinced his buyouts are why he's not being fired, they were going to give him a chance to turn this around regardless.doogville said:

And we'll just disagree there. Grant is too good of a prospect to go to a program purely on allegiance.
