RIP Rush Limbaugh

Rush briefly had a TV show but dropped it when the knives came out. On radio he didn't have to give a shit. He spawned the now decades long obsession with the Fairness Doctrine and Air America and other liberal failures to compete with him
Then a drumbeat of smears over the years and of course Obama being obsessed with him because he was one of the few who didn't bend the knee.

I think "small government" should be replaced with "limited government". Government will never be small, but it should be limited when it can be. Look at what the government red tape did in regards to the PNW forest fires. These fires grew in large part to the restricted timber laws that Oregon and Washington passed. Had logging companies been able to thin over grown forest areas, it would have slowed the spread and saved millions of forest acres.HHusky said:
Nobody with an ounce of intelligence has ever believed that "small government" is a realistic or a worthy objective. It's not an intellectually honest pursuit and neither political party has ever pursued it, regardless of what they said during a campaign. It's a fantasy. And all most of you ever mean by it is you want the government to do stuff you like, but not stuff you don't like.RoadTrip said:
Do you consider social media writ? How was Rush's spoken opinions on subjects like small government different than intellectual prose on the same subject in 1980?HHusky said:Political conservatism was actually moored to conservatism writ broadly, and was intellectually and philosophically coherent in in 1980.
Rush helped to change that.
Missed by the right wing's rabble. No one else.
Small government is at best a rhetorical flourish required to pander to the stupidest voter a Republican can hope to convince to pull the lever for him come election time. -
Remember when the dazzler used to post about the great success of Air America? Good times.RaceBannon said:Rush briefly had a TV show but dropped it when the knives came out. As if Ronald Reagan ever did anything to shrink government at any level.RaceBannon said:Nobody with an ounce of intelligence has ever believed that "small government" is a realistic or a worthy objective. - HHutzky
Other than the guy H claims to have voted for twice in the 80's
He was an adept politician. He paid lip service to lots of things. Unfortunately, in a Western democracy, it is crucial to capture some reasonable share of the gullible vote.

I had a summer jerb in college that had me driving around a lot for a couple years. I listened to Rush, and a whole raft of other talk shows, then, but never really since. Not my bag.
-
Nobody with an ounce of intelligence has ever believed The Dazzler actually practices law either.
-
I didn't know Snerdly was a real person, much less a black guy, until Race poasted something relatively recently.

If any of you "remember" that, do get in to see your doctor.WestlinnDuck said:

He wasn't remotely like what you gals now imagine, though you were there and should know better. Alas, not everyone can age well. -

Actually he did. And if you look at the budgets he proposed, he would have cut spending and the size of government even more if the Congress would have passed them. Weird how you cite your vote for Reagan as you single piece of evidence that you really are a Conservative and are ignorant of this Dazzler.HHusky said:

I never voted for Reagan
RR was all about shrinking government and doing what government is supposed to do. Defend the country
What he wasn't was beloved or treated fairly by the slime ball media which is what I have been telling the GALS for over a year now as they got the vapors over Trump -
It's easy to propose things that won't pass as a way to signal your purity.SFGbob said:

RR never shrank a government in his life. It wasn't remotely a touchstone of his governing philosophy.RaceBannon said:

You GALS are always worried about a GOP dictator then whine like GIRLS when they aren't and go along with Congress and stuff
Reagan stood for less government. You didn't and you don't
You're a fraud and a loser. And a sucker -
It's a mental disorder. The Dazzler has fantasies like this every day and did you know he's rich?RaceBannon said: -
My Rush story.
I was walking to class down greek row, 17th and a car stopped and asked, "Hey can I give you a ride so I can get carpool rate in the parking garage?" I got in. The guys asks me, "Do you like Rush?". Me thinking music first, said, "Sure!" (Thinking he was going to rock out on Tom Sayer or something). I then realize that he was talking about Limbaugh. I'm glad that I didn't make a Neil Peart comment.
I know, cool story bro. -
Reagan was a big government spender. In good times (California) and bad (when he took the Presidency).RaceBannon said:

That's not a criticism on my part. It's a big part of the reason the early 80s economic recovery was so rapid.

He didn't just propose them liar. Because you're a lying piece of shit Dazzler you feel that everyone else is like you. Reagan did cut spending and did reduce the size of the Federal government. If you would have made him king he would cut the size of government even more. Unfortunately he had a Congress filled with Dazzlers who had no interest in cutting spending.HHusky said:

If spending alone could bring about an economic Recovery you man crush Obama would have had a booming economy. As a percentage of GDP spending actually shrank under Reagan.HHusky said:

First Neil goes and now Rush in just over a year. I blame the chicom crud. Saw Rush and Kiss at the old Paramount venue in Portland in 1975.alumni94 said:My Rush story.

No, his mind is not for rent
To any god or government.
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren’t permanent –
PS One of my finest memories was touring the UW Greek Row in 1980 with my best friend and two Oregon cheerleaders, still decked out, (super hot) after a September game with the dawgs. We were treated like kings. Amazing what hot women can accomplish.
