Good Will HuntingI've partied with Minnie Driver at Sundance so my confirmation bias is seeping in. My ex wife wouldn't let me propose a threesome though. Sad.
-
L.A. ConfidentialI never walk away from an LA Confidential viewing opportunity.
Oh...

L.A. ConfidentialI'm not a big movie guy anymore, but this was a great year for me, and I may be one of the only people in captivity that has never seen Titanic...I loved Jackie Brown, and LA Confidential is one of, if not my favorite film ever. I read the book, and the movie is true to it...James Ellroy is tits, I highly recommend reading all his stuff (I have), if you have the time to obsess over 600-plus page books filled with darkness, filth, misogyny, violence (sorry, not book club board)...

You did the right thing by getting rid of that bitch.YellowSnow said:I've partied with Minnie Driver at Sundance so my confirmation bias is seeping in. My ex wife wouldn't let me propose a threesome though. Sad.

The Fifth ElementBetter year than I’d expected.
Good Element for rewatchability. Boogie Nights would be my real pick. Good Will/Wag the Dog (underrated)/Brasco -
L.A. Confidential
Any wife that’s not down for a three way isn’t worth the gold in her wedding band.dflea said:

True. But I wouldn’t have been able to go to Minnie’s private Sundance party were it not for my Daddy Warbucks ex father in law.dflea said:

L.A. ConfidentialI will say though I love The Fifth Element. For being a sometimes silly sci-fi movie it has one of the most oddly romantic scenes of any film I’ve seen at the end:

Wag The DogCriminally underrated
And unusual in that its a direct shot at Bill Clinton yet should be a cautionary tale in any year -
L.A. ConfidentialL.A. Confidential was "the movie" when it came out in my opinion, but I go back to Good WIll hunting.

The Fifth Element
Wag the Dog and Primary Colors are not easy to find. You'd think that one of the services would have had both streaming last fall for sure.RaceBannon said:Criminally underrated

Good lookin out. When I'd checked in the fall, there was like one expensive option for Wag.
ATBS, chinclude that shit in my subscriptions. -

No shit. I act like I've been mugged if I have to pay per view on Prime or Netflix or xfinity.GrundleStiltzkin said:

Good Will HuntingWould you like to watch it in 1080? 720? With Dutch subtitles?
Pay $40 per year for a VPN, turn it on, and watch whatever the hell you want. -
Good Will HuntingOh, and totally another strong year. The problem I have with contests like this is that there are the movies I "enjoy" most, then there are the movies that are the "best." I could watch The Fifth Element three times per year and it wouldn't get old. But is it the best on the list? For this kind of award, I usually err toward the movie that is the most powerful and provokes the strongest reaction/thought/etc. or is the deepest or most original.
I really liked Wag the Dog a lot. Donnie Brasco is one of two mob/gangster movies I can think of off the top of my head that I actually like. I think three of my favorite movies from this year didn't even make the pole, and those are Contact (book was even better), Grosse Pointe Blank, and Devil's Advocate. -

Cosigned on those two. Both kinda underrated.1to392831weretaken said:Oh, and totally another strong year. I read the book dad, we lose -
Boogie NightsGood Will Hunting is one of my favorite movies ... it’s spectacular in so many ways
Titanic is an epic ... and Kate’s bosom
But we’re in Yellow Piss’s Record Shop and you’ll be hard pressed to find a better soundtrack than Boogie Nights ... and no other movie has a sassy Nina Hartley cuckolding Little Bill
